Which winch

Postby berta on Fri, 05 Oct 2012 9:48 +0000

Hey guys
I've read a lot about winches and are undecided which one to get. I travel in remote areas alone, so reliability is a must. So realistically $$$ is not an issue due to the way I travel. I have a ARB Deluxe Bar, dual batteries and upgraded Ultimate Suspension suspension to deal with the weight increase. Which winch do I go? I want dynema rope, possibly a wireless remote and good winch speed. What would you guys recommend

I personally have the tjm ox 9500 pound winch and i havent had any issues with it at all.

Asked myself the same question a few weeks back mate.

I ended up with a Runva 12000lb from Wolf 4x4 with dyneema cable. Absolutely stoked with it.

Some great posts in here:

The runva looks good. The waterproof control box will help and I do water crossing occasionally. Anyone else had any exp in the these winches

If $$$ arn't a problem then I would consider the hydrolic options :!:
The funniest part about you reading my signature is that by the time you read the whole thing from start to finish you only then realise there is nothing interesting in it.

spend a little extra and get something decent, even a tiger winch is not much more

Just think when your $60,000 ute is hanging off the winch on the side of some muddy god forbidden track, it's getting dark and the missus has the shits, I'm guessing the little bit extra doesn't seem like much then.

Warn are expensive, that is why they buy the other brands

Yes they are regarded as such, there are some other highly regarded brands available in the USA but do not seem to be well represented here

Think of a Warn like a BMW.... Good but expensive, does what it is supose to do and generally good quality. Are they the best? Is BMW the best?
