Custom Rear Bar

Postby cizzink11 on Fri, 11 Jan 2013 3:54 +0000

Hey guys,

Not sure if this has been covered but i kinda searched and came up with sweet f a.

I would like some idea's as to a custom rear bar? I have my fair share of reversing into stuff, ie: tree stumps that come out of no where whilst doing a u-turn..

Anyone got any good idea's and or pictures?

Im building one at the moment in preparation for a "CAPE" trip ,
Its nothing flash 100x100 x 6mm RHS (cut and shut) mounted to the chassis via 75x75x 8mm angle to the towbar mounts, was going to carry wheel and jerrys but decided against that, the main purpose of my bar now is to protect the rear end in the bush(with side rear brush bars as well) and a good step up to the roof racks,as well as high lift jack and recovery points.

Ill post pics soon
Cost $0.00 so far. If i dont like it I can remove it and use it somewhere or for something else.

just have to finish off the heavy duty dual battery mount/tray in the next couple days. (I generally make/modify most of my stuff)

That rear bar looks amazing but doesn't have enough protection for me i don't think bloody good bar though.

Have you ever had trouble for the bars covering your reverse lights?

I am thinking of doing a quater chop as well seeing as I have planned for SAS mid year.

OK lets see if this worked,

Thanks shanno I searched for it but just came back with everyones uploaded photos,

The entire rear bar cost me 150 bucks to build (as long as you have basic tools)

I welded it to the original tow bar, with several extra supports onboard, you could lift the truck up of any point of that rear bar.

never had any trouble...bar doesnt cover the whole light and in the first pic you can see above the spare theres a flood light which comes on with reverse...my bar has saved mt tub 100000000 times...i have most of the paint missing from the higher side hoops

Here is another of mine, buds built.
Gives really good departure and strong too, dragged a bogged fully loaded lux with camper trailer through some deep soft sand over on Straddy . Only hooked on one side of the bar too, (will be getting a bridle set up to even the load)Image

A kaymar rear bar, a bit pricey, but I am happy with it as it seems really solid for rear protection and has good departure angle.

Do you have any more pics of this one mate? I like it, plus it appears to be an add on for the factory tow bar which I already have :)

I don't sorry enthropy,

It does look like it gives devent protection on either side of the tub but it doesn't look the sturdiest of bars.

I investigating about getting a rear bar like this formula off road bar. Except built buy budds custom or someone as good with sharper bends and angles that run with the tub better. Image

I just fitted my home built rear bar on wednesday, its nothing too outragous but is functional for what I needed.
it gives me some protection in the bush with out compromising departure angles too much,as well as high lift points and a step to access roof racks when required.
I will fit some alloy tread plate to the top to it shortly for abit more grip and maybe a couple recovery points.

all up took about 2-3 days to knock up on and off

had to modify and refit my home made tub rack as well inside the canopy for our "Cape trip" in june. Aswell as a million other things that need doing before then.
