Cylinder pitting 2.8 diesel

Postby MACK453 on Wed, 09 Aug 2017 6:16 +0000

Hi all.
I’m pretty new to the forum so I hope to find some helpful info here.

I just bought a 2.8 motor from a bloke in Davis town and it had been sitting for 10 years. Once I got home, stripped it down and cleaned up the bore a bit to see what it was like I noticed this pitting in the top section of the cylinder? I have no idea what could have caused this because the motor was undercover it’s whole life of sitting and it can’t of been ordinary corrosion because it was covered in desiel greese and old oil. Any ideas? My diesel mechanic mate seemed to think it may have happened while the motor was running. Obviously over a long time.

If the image link doesn’t work I’ll put it up another way.
