Hey all,

Did a search around for this and didn't find too much to get a solid answer. I'm hearing a noticeable ticking or clicking sound when I have the key at ignition ON before START. It's loud enough that it's causing me concern though it could be paranoia as I'm unfamiliar with the vehicle. It's an '06 4x4 SR with 94k kilometres with no modifications as far as I'm aware.

I've taken three videos of the sound. Two are from the driver's side of the front - one from above and one from underneath. The third is just a video of the ignition starting up. Does this sound odd to you guys? The answers I did find ranged from the glowplugs, glowplug relay, to the Turbo Stepper Motor.

I'm pretty novice with cars (attempting to learn) so I thought I'd get a second opinion from the enthusiasts on this one. Thanks for the help! :)

Mine does it. I think its the turbo solenoid cycling. Maybe yours is just louder than others :?:

Yes it is the turbo stepper motor.
They all make some noise. Early ones are usually louder then the newer ones.
Yours is certainly the loudest I've heard, but if it's not causing any issues when driving then I wouldn't worry about it.

I discovered a way to make it stop if I need to have the ignition on.
Turn it to on, wait for the noise. Then turn it off and back on again quickly. Should trick it into stopping.

Hmm, good to know that it's a common sound and not an issue. I haven't experienced any issues while driving so I think it's safe but I might query a mechanic the next time I'm in. Thanks for the input - I was leaning towards the glowplugs or the glowplug relay beforehand.
