the tube i used is the same size as the standard toyota tube. the only bit that was different was the inlet to the manifold, it had a 3/4 tube then expanded to 7/8, (22mm) to the inlet on the manifold.

you can see it in 1 of my pics

Otherwise it looks great! Almost factory

The Provent 200 is sized to suit much more powerful engines than the 3 litre D4D.

Hey Andy
Just back to your first post, I haven't seen this unit in real life or done this mod myself, but was there a reason for cutting 30mm off top and 15 off bottom? Could you have taken 45mm off bottom and then not have to re-drill and tap the top holes?

I think it was something to do with the mounting holes on the side of the can. If I just took 45mm off one end I would of cut into the mounting holes.
If you don't have ABS brakes then you probably don't need to shorten the can at all. I needed to shorten it to clear the ABS wiring harness.

No problem with using larger hose (within reason), just don't use smaller hose.

Does this mod void warranty or does toyota recommend this. I guess it's only really helping the engine in the long run

I spoke to my toyota dealer and they said you can fit anything, however if the problem is linked to that item then they won't cover you for that problem. They actually thought it was a good idea (i fitted a provent) cause it is essentially preventative maintenance.

They only thing i could see going wrong with fitting a catch can is if someone uses smaller hose and it ends up pressurising the crankcase and leaking seals / gaskets result.

I'm keen on this mod. But as an accountant, I am pretty sure I shouldn't be playing around with anything inside my engine bay to this degree. What type of cost would you expect a mechanic to charge for this?

Cheers

Hey grab some hose clamps for the hoses going Provent to engine & back. My kit didn't include clamps for those. I'm getting oil out of the pipe off the top, at the Provent, which is possibly resulting from cooling leading to condensing of the vapour, which is good. Also clearly getting oil vapour through it which is great. I'd just love the oil to make it through to the tap instead of my bash plate!! (Nope, no other leaks anywhere' my engine is dry as a very dry thing)
