How To: Oil Catch Can

Can someone please show me a pic or explin which hose on intake and exactly where ?

I'll try and examine this clearly as I don't have any pics at the moment. Remove to plastic cover from the intercooler to be able to see the location more clearly. On the RHS (drivers side) of the tapper/valve cover there is a rubber hose that comes out. It's about 1" outside diameter. It joins a steel pipe that runs down the side of the engine and over to the intake pipe just before the turbo.

Probably as clear as mud now. If you can't work it out from my description let me know and I'll take a couple of pics during the week.

Hi, i installed a catch can in a 2012 diesel back in march this year and i just emptied it today to find oil and about 50ml of water in it. I've did a bit of Google searching to find wtf is happening, everyone suggest it's condensation from short trips when the oil doesn't reach normal temp. Anyone else had this problem????

Wold it be better to run the outlet of the catch can into the air box (pre air filter) for better filtering of the air return or would the vacuum in the air box stop it from working?

If you were to run the return line from the catch can into the air filter most likely and depending on what type of filter you have either paper or foam then it would quickly gum up with oil and decrease airflow passing through the filter. The system is sealed so the pressure that is being made up into the crankcase is enough to push the vapours through into the airbox.

Another issue that would arise is a dirty MAF sensor giving a bad reading which would result in a rich combustion/poor fuel economy.

There is already a filter in the catch can and no need to have a secondary filter. Provent 200 is a great system which I use.

Just wanna share you guys my oil catch can.. It has breather on top..

During idle, the oil/fuel vapor escapes in the breather then sucks little air from the breather during acceleration.. Yeah i know its unmetered air.. Afaik, a lil excess/unmetered air is good for a stock ECU..

Ive Also put steelwool inside the can..

When installing an oil catch can does the length and location of the filter mater? i have so much stuff under the bonnet the only place i can fit it is behind the bull bar so the hoses will be about 1500mm long? Cheers

done my forefront industries catch can, exactly the same as provent..... 2014 SR D4d

these catch cans aswell as the provent have a filter inside and a drain port underneath it.... i used to use a normal catch as pictures but found no point unless u have a filler or some type of filration inside....

Do you know if the have the same size inlet/outlet diameter as the Provent 200, my only concern here is flow.
Otherwise it looks great! Almost factory
