Is the oil drain pipe on these open to air or sealed, reason im asking is could water get in there if you got stuck in water or something?

if anyone has a pic of where they have routed theres to would be much appreciated

Nothing in the intake system besides air filter inlet is open to outside air, via air filter

Hi KM, I do have a rattle now that you mention it but I didn't figure it was coming from the seperator. I have a rattle that sounds like it's coming from under the dash (right side)... I will have to have a look when I get back - could be the provent.

Hi
Confirm, i also install provent 200 on my D4d, ratlle come from valve on cover of Provent 200.
I simulate to open the cover on top of Provent, rattle sound is gone...

i try to enjoy this sound...:)..after i month...not strange anymore... :)

mines doesnt rattle at all.... and by the way mines a CHIP IT one. i got it second hand for a good price and have read a lot of posts on here saying how theyre not made well. i dont see any problem with mine, havent seen the original ones, but i cant fault mine and no rattle.

***if its the valve at the top on the lid your talking about just pull the spring off and stretch it a little bit to make it fit tighter.... not too tight because its a pressure releif valve

Okay - installed my Provent well over 10,000km ago and only have produced some slightly oil stained water vapour.
No where near the black crude that others have reported:
TheGreenThing wrote:Blocked my egr since 2000km in odometer
Ive also installed a catch can. My catch can was installed last 10,000km & after running less than 7000km

Have I got a dud catch can or is little more than water vapour normal?

I am not saying that it isn't true or anything like that, but your situation sounds right, mate.
If your worried about it, just check to see how dry the hose is, or elbow is, going to the turbo.
It should be pretty dry, not oily.
The Roo.

Thanks Roo! Will look at this when back from remote service travel.

Hhhmmm,
Quickly stuck my head under the bonnet with screwdriver in hand - Looks like I will need to open up the catch can when I get more time.
Loads of oil in the 1" hose going to turbo. Might be a blocked oil drain hose???

Had a bit more time this morning to take the catch can out.
Looks like the oil drain hose has softened with the engine heat and crimped closed due to the tight bend the hose has to make hitting the wheel arch.
Will look at fitting a 90degree elbow or use fuel hose and keep a small window of clear hose at the other end to view oil level.

Still plenty of clearance between wheel arch and elbow

1/2" Diesel fuel line could be used for the provent couldn't it? I've got some laying around.
Western filters have the unit itself for $170 or the kit for $265
$95 for some hose & clamps and 3 reducers seems a little excessive

Could an irrigation reducer be used for the 5/8" to 1" at the provent? They don't seem to do that size in brass according to pirtek. I have found it in black plastic irrigation fittings at bunnings. The one that comes in the western filters kit appears to be white plastic. Not sure if irrigation plastic would be oil stable or not?

Also keen on knowing this, didn't buy mine with a fitting kit but finding the hoses/reducers etc is actually a bit frustrating

What exactly are you fellas looking for. A 1" to 5/8" hose reducing barb. Have you fellas tried Reece HVAC or a speciallty hose fitting place like SouthCott hydraulics?

I've found a few suppliers around that I could possibly source the hose from, but working from 6:30 to 5pm Mon-Fri makes it very difficult to get to them, where places like Supercheap/bunnings etc are open late.

For the hose in Brisbane.
http://www.powellindustrial.com.au/
They can be found at Coopers Plains. They took over the Purple Pig last Christmas (2012).
Their Cat No. is 99-100775.
15.9mm 30R7 hose made by Gates.
Hope this helps, the Roo.
