What engine oil are you using? Maybe that matters??? I use penrite HPR 15w40... maybe the heavier oil doesn't fog as much??

I'm using whatever Toyota uses under capped price servicing. I don't have my manual, but isn't 15W-X a bit heavy?

Depends where you live... if you don't freeze 15w is fine according to the manual. Toyota uses 5w/30 (I think??)

I have fitted a provent 200 to my 2008 sr and when I open it up there is signs of water on the top of the filter. When I drain the tap I got about half a cup of water come out. I have done about 2000kms with it. Has any one else had this or know why this happened.

Interesting. I've had the Provent installed in my 2014 for 5000km now, not a drop of water or oil. I'm either lucky or unlucky.

I have had one installed in my 2014 pretty much since new, nearly 10k now, and I haven't had anything in it yet either.

Was worried there was something wrong.

I mainly do short trips around town. I cleaned the egr about 5000kms ago and changed injectors about 2000kms ago. Since I fitted the provent that's all I've collected is water. It seems to be running fine.

Watch out for a cracked head or gasket leak... there should not be water in the crankcase :o

Inlet is on the top. But to get the filter out you have to unscrew the top and it slides out. Might have trouble there unless you didn't fix it to the panel ? It's a tight fit with the abs I'm going to fit mine this weekend.

Water is not normal and there shouldn't be any in the system. Highly doubt condenstation unless you are living in sub zero temps.

I collect a bit of water in mine too. Also do a lot of short trips and it only seems to happens in cold weather.

I stand corrected then.
I've lived down south in the cold and done the short trip thing and never had any. Just lucky i guess.

No worries GB. Just sharing information/ideas learned from others
I may have miss-credited BH for saying its 'normal' per say... not saying that normal is good either

boxhead55 wrote:Tropics are the worst for water vapor.
Condensation is bad in the top of Motors and fuel tanks.

The diesel fuel get to temps from 85 to 100 deg c. When it cools condensation droplets form in the top of the fuel tank. And top of the motor.

Just a FYI.

Have a great day.

Sorry about the delay in answering.
Mate, no, I didn't clean this vehicle before I installed the MH Provent 200 catch can.
As long as you take out the mist of oil going back through, the build up just dries out and ends up in the sump/engine oil, thus the oil filter.
Happy days.

I thought I would put this up. It's how I have been installing the MH Provent 200 to the Hiluxes.
I do like the bracket approach, but I use nutserts into the inner guard.
The SR5 models are a bit more work, because of the ABS module.
The SR models are pretty straight forward.

Image

Remove the intercooler.

Image

To do that, first remove the negative battery terminal of the main battery.
Then remove these harnesses.
Undo the clamp for the hose that attaches to the throttle body.

Image

Undo these four bolts. Be careful not to drop them, as they like to hide. ;)

Undo the four bolts that hold the intercooler in place.
