Already fully installed with clear hose and all!
I just have a bolt clamped in with a hose clamp, a nice little valve like that would make draining it a bit easier :)

Has anyone had a go at using these non genuine steel mesh filters, that replace the genuine provent filter? Found in eBay, item number 291304359535

I've had my provent installed for over six months now. Works great, but now it is time to do something about the filter, as it is clogged up and the unit is now venting small amounts of crap out the relief valve.
I'm 100% sure....I think

Yeah I put one in. Seems to work ok! Just clean it with degreaser and air gun.

Thanks James, I much prefer the idea of a reusable filter compared to buying an $80 filter every six months.
Will give it a run

I didn't see any instructions about a pressure regulator, so no. How should it be adjusted? The instructions from Western Filters have photos so small that they are nearly impossible to read. Anyone got any original instructions that are readable? - just for reference? The instructions on this thread are pretty impressive.

Why would you want to? The relief valve is there to make sure your not pressurizing the crankcase and risking pushing out oil seals. It's a sealed unit anyway.

The Mann Hummel Provent 200, while it's a great bit of kit, it will only take out about 90% of the oil residue.
Just saying. ;)

If that's the case, I won't have to worry about cleaning my manifold til the 1mil km mark or more.
A can of 3Bond intake cleaner every so often should keep it all nice and clean.

Yep that's about how much I get out of it.
Is that oil any good? can I put it back in or is it worn out now,
I don't really know what part of its cycle that it comes from.

Might still work as intended, bit its black, so its dirty.

I would just throw it out and if you need to top the motor up put in fresh oil.

Its not a huge amount of oil for the motor, but it is a lot to run through your intake system. And my filter looks like the pic in the earlier post

Don't know if anyone else has had this issue, but I bought the hilux fitting kit from Western Filters to put on a 2014 SR5. For some reason the top hose provided was about an inch short - I could not keep that sucker on there even with hose clamps (it just fit, but I'd say vibrations were working against me).

I contacted Western Filters and they happy to give me a longer piece of hose, and thankfully I live nearby. Maybe something changed on the 2014 model, or maybe someone cut the first one short. Either way, I recommend checking with Western prior to purchase.

Arlo,

I got mine from western filters for my 2014 sr5, had no trouble fitting it or any thing, you must have gotten a short hose.

Yeah, 2014 SR - WF stuffed mine up too. When I contacted them they said a whole run was poorly assembled. The bracket I received had the mounting holes drilled too close together, the return hose with 90 deg bend to go behind the intercooler pipe was 50-60mm too short and the drain hose before the elbow too long so that it hit the wheel arch....
Bought the complete kit to save time
Anyway - WF sending out new return hose and filter to make up for the inconvenience.
Good customer service but sounds like the the assembly worker needs marching orders

I dont know if it is the best, I have limited experience, but the provent in the title of this thread seems very popular here on newhilux. I can say it is quite large and therefore some people have trouble mounting them in the limited space under the bonnet, but I didnt have that problem. Lets face it though, it is just a filter to remove oil particles, so how much difference can there be in any of them.

I would say, go with other peoples experience and get the provent, unless you dont have enough room for it.
