Yes you can legally secure a baby seat in an extra cab. There should be instructions in the Owners Manaul showing where to bolt the anchor point. We carried our daughter in our 01 extra cab without any problems. Only upgraded to a dual cab when the next child was on the way and we wanted more in cab space.

We looked at buying an extra cab, I think the spot bolt the anchor point to had been added in, there was a plate on the outside of the cab just below the window with bolts through to another plate on the inside. If there isn't something already there it can definitely be done. I spoke to engineer in echuca and he told me it wasn't a problem to have one in there legally. Best look into that yourself also though.

Saying that there wouldn't be much room in there for one, seems barely enough room in the dual cabs for one, ours had to go on the passenger side as I'm 6"2 and it wouldn't fit behind the drivers seats when I'm driving.

I don't know about the current model, but my 01 model already had the anchor point on the back wall behind a little square opening in the plasic fascia at headrest level. We carried the baby capsule in both configurations, i.e. Laying flat for an infant and seated upright for a toddler. The trick was getting the front passenger seat to lock back into the upright position with the capsule laying flat. Once we got the knack of that everyone was happy.

Wish Hilux had Suicide doors like the ranger for extra cab, make it easier to get in there. Definitely would have got an extra cab if they had this option!

Hey,
Thanks everyone.
Got it all sorted now.
Booked in for an anchor point to be fitted next week.
$300 is what it will cost.
Toyota dealership were no help.
They didn't want to install it but said it could be done.

The little fella will love it hopefully..!!

What's the year model of ya vehicle mate, I'm keen on this too, checked the manual and there's no info for a 2007, I had a 98 and the points were behind the rear back rest. If ya got 2005 onwards can ya post some photos of where is engineer ended up installing the points.

Cheers bud.
Steve.

Aye diegothecat or anyone reading, I see ya got a child's seat in there, but is the bloke who fit the seat able to do a capsule in the back also? I understand a capsule must face backwards or something, I suppose the only available space is in the middle. Anything on newborns?
Cheers.
Stevo.

nah i dont think so, as you still need the standard seat belts to hold the seat in place and there definitely isnt enough room in the back for the backwards facing seat.

We waited till our little fella was big enough to be forward facing b4 we got the anchor point installed and used our other car to get him around for the time. Bit annowing but worth it in the end
