Two stroke oil in D4D

Postby Uys on Fri, 29 Oct 2010 5:07 +0000

There are some heated debates on www.4x4community.co.za about the merits of using two stroke oil in you diesel engine.

I have been adding 1:200 on each tank since new without any noticeable ill effects. I had my injectors tested on 100 000km , and the mechie didn't believe that they were original since they tested better than new injectors.

I also have a 0.5 micron additional filter in the vehicle.

So, do you use two stroke oil in your D4D?

I know plenty of guys on the triton forum are using it, much quieter engine according to the reports and haven't heard any horror stories yet. Been thinking of doing it myself....

waste of time. diesel is oil. the 0.5 micron additional filter in the vehicle would make more difference than anything. keep the crap and water out and you will be fine

i know a few people doing it in the current model lux as well, they reckon it has solved the cold rattles altogether .. make sure you use the synthetic 2 stroke oil though.. 1ltr per 200ltrs is about right.. so in a normal tank, thats about 150-200ml per tank full..

Early thoughts.
2 mornings and it is also 5 am.
in the mornings i just get in my truck and drive it trying not to wake the kids next door.
i'm fairly sure it is both quieter and smoother in the first couple of minutes driving.
i dont believe its any better in any other way at this stage.
i've only done 400 k's yesterday fuel guage looks about right for what i did since it got its neck wrunge a bit.
since i'm only paying for the oil not the diesel i'll keep at it and see what happens

well a thousand k's under the bridge and i'm over it.
1 .cant be stuffed putting oil in every morning.
2 i think it's quieter first up but that's all
3 and not least i didnt put oil in this morning and my fuel consumption was down from yesterday over the same road same load same tyre pressure dah dah dah by .5 l/100k's
i'll leave it for some one else to play with

correct me if Im wrong but wouldnt it be quieter due to the face that the cylinders would be lubricated quicker. were normally you would have to wait for oil pressure and temp??? or am i on the wrong path.
And the simple solution for that would be let the car warm up before driving.

in an effort to keep 200/1 mix i added oil to suit the fuel put in.
yes the first day i did 400k next 330 the third day diluted mix 350k so when i drive the same roads the same way that amount of k's you get to know ur truck
i fuel up every day cos i never know where i could be sent

If you are going to go through the motion of putting a additive in every time you fuel up, use a diesel treatment that stops
bacterial - algae- fungi growth. It will have a lube in it as well. Just make sure it is one that doesn't entrap water. I use whnn's EDT into a 1,000L tank so it not a lot of effort.

I have read about this on other forums, there does not appear to be any cons as long as non syn 2T is used. It has been a year since this was posted and I am wondering if there are any D4D owners out there who have been adding 2T to their fuel and if there has been any noticable improvements etc.

Cheers

I'm running a fully synthetic oil at 0.5l for 1 tank (bit more than the 1:200) and i can say it is a lot more quieter than clean diesel. This is an 06 2.5 D-4D 102bhp. Funny thing i notice is a bit less smoke than without it. I'm parking in a garage with my white Work-top behind the car so i can notice it by the carbon deposits :) on the work top. i will be running a few clean tanks to see if there will be a change in the fuel consumption but in general i'm pretty happy.

Another thing i noticed is a change on the cold start - before i would have trouble exiting the underground garage... well not trouble but it would not rev up beyond 1200rpm cold on the steep incline. With the oil this is gone (i'm guessing lubrication has something to do with it).

The older drivers i ask run it on the bigger trucks and buses beceuse, as they say, the older diesels have a more complicated Fuel Pump and it needs lubrication to keep it running longer. Newer fuel (higher Euro standarts) is in their words "drier" for less smoke and mainly common rail diesels benefit from it as it is cleaner and more "precise" running.

Something i know from other applications (mainly suspension) - running a semi or fully mineral oil is not good for your seals, o-rings etc. this is why i went with the fully synthetic 2 stroke oil.

Adding the .5 micron filter I think would be doing a world of good to your injectors. How often do you have to change that filter and where did you get it?

Denso HP fuel systems use a 3 micro filter and when you have shitty fuel they seem to clog up fairly often.
