You can get one that attaches to your sun visor or the one I was going to get, which replaces your rear view mirror and turns half of it in to a screen when reverse is selected.

Cost from memory was about $600 installed

Hey everyone,

Has anyone put an after market head unit with reversing camera in? and if so how did it go.

Cheers

Hi
2011, SR5 Dual Cab TD.
I was told today by a Toyota parts place that there are 3 different types of head unit used by toyota and only 2 are compatable with a camera.
He said if he checks my VIN he can tell me if mine has the video input, he said mine doesn't have it.

So, my question is has anyone found they don't have the video on their head unit. I don't really want to pull the unit out to check if it doesn't have the input.

Thanks
Michael

hylux wrote:Just thought I would update - I have the MY11 SR5 and the cheapest way to do this is buy the harness for $28 from Toyota, buy your own camera that you want and install as follows: Mount camera and run power wires to your reverse light and splice in. (dont run back to the head unit as the output voltage from the headunit is only 6volts). Wire video wire to headunit. You dont need to remove the seat just use the plug under the drivers seat near the door and remove side step panel to access by putting hand under carpet. Remove head unit and plug in new harness. 20pin plugs join in series. Find the 4 pin plug on the harness and cut off the yellow and white - the red/black is 6 volts for the Toyota camera - dont use. Join the yellow to camera video white = camera neg or sheild. Connect the green reverse sence wire and mentioned by big red above. All should work, there are some settings on the headunit but by default they should be fine and no changes needed. All up around 1 hour and under $200 depending on your camera.

Just another note
You need to use an NTSC camera not a PAL.

I am looking at doing this mod as well - am currently running the Kaymar Rear Bar. Does anyone know if this STD Toyota camera will fit up to this with getting knocked off when I open up the tail gate.... My thinking is it may be a little problem... any hints/options?????

For all your camera installations in Sydney, contact this guy. Better than the standard Toyota stuff. Couldn't be happier with his help!!!

Hey guys,
I followed the instructions of Hylux using the 'PZQ6000110 - Harness' from Toyota and an after market camera. Hooked the after market camera power & earth into my reverse light and ran the video cable (with RCA plug) into the cabin. I spliced the harness into the reverse sensor and then cut off the RCA and connected the yellow from the camera onto the yellow wire of the PZQ6000110, and connected the shielding onto the white wire in the harness. Seemed right, but got no image on the screen, the standard radio chaneel image remains. The screen blinks for a second when I put gear in reverse.
Ive only got basic electronic skills, but with my voltmeter I checked the following
1. Reverse sensor wire - No reading when car in neutral, then put into reverse gear, then I got a voltage output
2. Camera wires - Yellow and Shielding - No reading when car in neutral, then put into reverse gear, then I got a voltage output

Any suggestions of what may be wrong? Any help would be much appreciated

Try connecting the camera's neg wire to the car earth not reverse light wire neg.

Couldn't agree more. He just installed a switch to allow me to switch my camera on anytime (not just when in reverse). Handy for checking what that clunk is when towing (if you are paranoid like me).
He offered to talk me through what needed to be done over the phone but I opted to pay him to do it.
Really nice bloke.
Good price.

Thanks for the info. Actually checked the earth, and the splice connector that I had used, had not stripped the thinner camera earth wire sheath properly, so just wired up the earth manually and it worked! Thanks again

I have a TNS510 navi and want to use an aftermarket camera. My Bluetooth connection kit, wich splices on to the 20 pin plug on the back of the navi and ads a new 20 pin plug, has these colors on the four pins(I believe theese are the camera pins) on the 20 pin connector:

____|____________|___
1 2
3 4
|__|-|___________|-|__|

1: White (when OHMed it have connection to navi-chassis - seems to be ground/shield)
2: Black Fat (when OHMed it have connection to navi-chassis - seems to be ground/shield)
3: Red
4: Black +6V when car in reverse. (+6V messured between pin and navi-chassis)

Can anyone positively ID the pins for me?

Thanks

Bjorn

Bjorn, I'm not sure if anyone got back to you on this one....

I've just wired an aftermarket (12V) camera into my 2009 Hilux with the TNS510 and found the reversing camera works perfectly if you connect the video feed to the red wire and the shield (earth) to the fat black wire.

If you use the Toyota camera (which i think is 6V) then you would need to use the black 6v feed you identified and earth/ground it to the white wire.

Hope that helps
Alex
