Hey guys, I just seen these in Repcos catalogue.
Anyone had any experience with Oricom? Or should I just go with GME?

Good buy - ive heard there all right - most down falls with UHF is in the quality of the aerial, coax and connections.

How much was the hand held?

Not sure what the price of a hand held was. Sorry.
Well after a bit of research (Other forums and members experiences) I've decided I'm going to steer away from Oricom.
Have heard a lot of bad responses and feed back.
GME it is.
Cheers.

Not sure about that particular model but I run the UHF300 Micro and it works fine. My antenna is mounted on the steel roll hoop so nice and high. It will never be a big distance unit but in the bush it will communicate easily 3-4kms which I have found is enough for my purpose. If you are looking for long range comms then buy a SAT Phone :P

For the money I think the features and functionality are equal or better than some of the other brands charging a lot more (waiting to get flamed :o )

I think you could but dont count me on it.
End of the day the way I see it is your aerial is whats picking up and sending the signals. If you dont have a descent aerial then its not letting your good UHF work to its full potential.

Sure can, I am running one with mine, antenna's are merely frequency matched, for UHF/CB as long as they are 477MHZ it will work, as long as the gain matches the head units ability, e.g 6 or 9dB.

This is the updated version of the one that I use GME Antenna 477MHz

EDIT: I forgot to add, make sure before you get the antenna to understand the type of earthing you are going to need, eg is it needing a ground plane or non grounded antenna. This will make a big difference to performance, and as to where you should mount the antenna for optimum performance.

most people that are happy with oricom have never had a good gme or uniden set, I find the sound very poor in comparison and they seem more prone to interference.

Antennas are antennas, brand makes no difference, if it works with one radio it should work with any.

I personally steer clear of Gme antennas, particularly the elevated fed type. RFI is the go.

I've got an older model Oricom 280. I've got a 4.5db MobileOne antenna attached

The combo has been great, worked well in Vic High Country and in the outback.

I've got an oricom and it's good to go. Had uniden, GME and Icom in the past the oricom is just as good.

I wasn't running this exact model, although, in my last hilux I was running an oricom set-up with a cheapo antenna and didn't have any dramas. Tore the antenna off on a bush and still managed to pick up signal fine in a much smaller radius obviously. No dramas though. I would buy it again.

Very poor receiver, but you get what you pay for. (We tested a few straight out of the box and the receive sensitivity was low.)
