Least favourite / regrettable mods??

Postby Rocket55 on Fri, 12 Sep 2014 4:09 +0000

With so many accessories available to our beloved Hilux it's easy to invest money in modifications or accessories that don't deliver value for your use, or don't stack up to what you were expecting, or simply just seemed like a great idea at the time, but in reality you just don't need.

Let's see what makes the list ....
Cheers Rod

Chip It Module
Very expensive, even though bought second hand and died completely about 3 months ago. Had connected to a switch so only ever used for about 10 seconds at a time when needing a burst of speed or torque.

Prefer the kaymar?

My regrettable mod is the Toyota tub liner, way too much needs to be cut off to make it work with other genuine and non-gen accessories

ARB bars protect your tub but the are not rated for recoverys and scraps on bloody everything. Having a stock suspension and a genuine tow bar gives you more clearance then when I lifted my truck (2inch) and the ARB bar..
I bought it second hand for $400
And sold it the other week for $700 after I painted it. So now it going in for a
New look.
Cheers, Stuart

K&N air filter. Fouled up my MAF in no time, despite their testing disproving it. When I say in no time, I mean quicker then the expected maintenance.

Limits the internal space, our tents are too long to fit lengthways, or sideways. Low internal height with drawers fitted, bulge in canopy roof prevents me fitting a ladder rack. It is just stifling everything I want to do.

Wasting alot of money on a 9litre air tank for my compressor setup which does sweet F all when pumping up tyres, need atleast a 15 litre tank to do anything!

Mine is sitting in a box. Dunno if I'll ever put it back in.

Tub liner.. I didn't buy it but it came already fitted to my secondhand lux & when I took it off to fit my canopy it had scratched the F out of the paint underneath, bare metal rubbing thru everywhere
What's the point of these stupid liners? They do nothing to protect the inside of the tub & shit slides around all over the place on the plastic :?
