I ran a small power wire with the RCA cable and spliced it into the cigarette lighter socket.

The standard location of the camera makes it useless at night time due to the number plate lights. I was thinking that we could rig something up so when reverse is engaged the number plate lights turn off and then turn back on. Anyone have an idea how to do this?

I'd also like to know if there is a way around the number plate light issue. Ive only had my sr5 for a day and the only problem with it, is the reverse camera at night. I was thinking of putting some sort of shield around the globes to see if can deflect some light away from the camera, mbut I suspect this may cause problem.

Has anyone tried anything that kinda works?

On my 2011 model I used a mongoose camera and works great at night and no problems with number plate lights. Was around $130. Heaps of guys at work got cheap eBay ones and they either don't work anymore or have crap picture

One tip, don't mount your camera too close to the number plate lights as you can't see much at night. Toyota mounted mine genuine factors one and I'm Gunna have to move it some time. But yeah, it's good if I was using a trailer lots as it shows my tow ball.

Oh wow when I first loaded this thread I didn't see others talking about number plate lights. I'm glad I'm not the only one with the issue.

You could rig a "reverse relay" up so when the reverse lights come on the number plate lights get turned off. Be easier to move the camera or shield the number plate lights though I think.

hello,
what are people doing that have the cheaper ebay cameras, how are you connecting it to the head deck? i have a 2012 sr5 hilux with the 150 loom already there, i understand the whole green red wire part but how do you get the video signal to the deck? im taking it the toyota plug has the 4 pin plug on the end of it...

i bought the PZQ60-00110 harness as well as mentioned elswhere but this has the same end on it as the head deck... i need the opposite end or something like that plug to plug into it???

Thanks in advance.

Can someone please help me?

I have a 2010 SR5 with radio unit PZQ60-00051. I am trying to install my own reverse camera system. My Toyota service agent said that as I have a SR5 I don't need any wiring harness as its pre wired to connect to a factory Toyota camera out the back of the car. I have removed my head unit and there are 4 sockets with only 3 used. I initially thought that the missing plug was the one I needed to purchase to connect to the rear camera but the service agent is adamant I don't need one. I have my own camera with the positive and negative wires already hooked up to the reverse lights and all I have left is the yellow RCA cable to plug into somewhere/something.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Picked up my SR5 from Caboolture last Monday. They put my reverse camera next to the tow bar under the rear step bar. Its higher than the tow ball and the vision is really good at night. Just wondering how long it will last there though but I suppose the tow ball will give it some protection. It's also in a little protective steel frame. Maybe this is Toyota's way of dealing with the light problem.

i have the same head unit.

gahpee wrote:Hi,
I am also having trouble getting an Ebay camera (NTSC) working on my brand new Hilux. It is fitted with head unit PZQ60-00531. The PZQ60-00150 harness was already installed and I have connected the green wire to the reversing light wire. This part is working correctly as the unit reports that reverse is on when I select reverse gear. However, I have been unable to identify the correct connection for the camera signal. I have not been able to find any pins that go to 6V when reverse is selected which would have at least identified the correct connector. Like tuf-lux, I have tried connecting the video signal to each of the pins in the top left connector but no joy. I have included a pic of the rear of the unit.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

From memory you unplug the existing cable from the head unit and plug in the new harness in and the other end of the harness you plug in the cable you just removed. It does not go into a spare port in the head unit. There is a spare plug in the new harness that plugs into the genuine camera. If you are using non genuine camera follow the instructions in the other post by cutting two wires off this plug - join the camera wires

Thanks for your reply... i have tried asd with thre other people to connect it up with the plugs that are there... they do not connect to each other. i understand the cutting off the wires part and everything else its just that the pzq60-00110 will not conect to the pzq60-00150 harness i have... maybe i am missing something?

Can somebody who ordered the PZQ60-00150 and did a DIY/ebay camera install give me an idea which dealer had the harness in stock and what did it cost?

Also anybody who installed the camera and found they already had the PZQ60-00150 factory installed want to sell me the harness?

hi mate, it could be as simple as permanently grounding the handbrake sensor wire.

i remember reading, on the previous unit pzq60-00200 the unit would also use the speed sensor signal and cut video once speed went above a certain level (10-15km)

i won't have my harness until monday, so i can't confirm until next week, but i will post my findings.

You will need to have a 2 way switch.
1 contact wired to the reversing light wire.
1 contact wires to 12v
Common will go to the head unit plug.
Hope that helps
