Toyota Genuine Reversing Camera Install

Anyone of you guys tried messing with the reverse camera to get a picture on demand? With an extra rocker button or something without being in reverse?

Yep. Fir a rocker switch feeding power to the tiger wire be sure to also run a diode inline so the reverse lights don't come on when you flick the switch

Tiger wire?? And u mean power thru a rocker thru a diode to this tiger wire? And best place to get the power from????

The diode need to go between the wire going to the radio and the scotch lock (green wire in the sheath )connected to the reverse wire (red with white stripe) conected to the the white plug at the integration relay



This is so the switched power does not turn the reverse light on

This will bring the camra on but not the reverse lights

Guys is there a way for the camera to come on faster when you are about to go in reverse.mine takes approximately 8-9 secs from the moment i put it in reverse.I think when i first got it was coming on much faster...???

Hi everyone,

This is truly doing my head in

I have a 2014 SR5 hilux. I have successfully put in a battery link switch, driving lights switch, winch isolation switch and a winch IN/OUT switch BUT for the life of me can not work out how to wire up the reverse camera override switch without the reverse lights coming on. I have read through all the comment and different posts in this entire (and other) forum and as informative as they are I am having trouble clearly identifying what goes where.

If anyone could please draw a simple diagram (including wire colours and locations) for me to get this to work correctly? please. I pride myself on being able to work these things out by myself however this simple task has got me beat!

I have tapped into the yellow wire behind the glove box and using a diode could not successfully get it to work without the reverse lights coming on

anyway, any advise would be appreciated.

Me again, I plugged the camera into the back of the radio unit, to get the best position to mount the camera, nothing happens, is there something I am missing that is not in the instruction?

Thanks for the tips Green wire to Red with White stripes! Something that should be in the instructions, took longer than an hour to fit, but all good

The other way to go would be a Carbon Car Systems camera ... they have ones that plug'n'play with the OEM head units. I got mine for $159 and it is a CCD camera not the (supposedly lower quality/resolution) CMOS units that Toyota supply.

Unit came with wiring loom and full instructions ... Other than the time it took to run the cable to the rear of the hilux, connection only took about half an hour. Great quality picture too !

Just a quick question in regard to the Toyota reverse cameras on the 2011 Hilux, mine shows the left hand side on the right of the screen and visa versa, is there a fix for this???

holly f$@#&% you guys!!! now after 3 hours trying to install a revers camera from ebay ... came to find out that it take 5 f$@#&% min!!
so here it goes you know the freaking wire that comes with the camera ? and have that read wire coming out from it? oh yes you know what im talking about so get the damn wire and take positive 12 v from the cigarette lighter wire and the other end hock it up to the positive wire on the camera!!! you dont need to attach the black wire to anything !!! volla !!! it f$@#&% work.

BH, the green wire with the sheath i am assuming that it is the "Trigger" wire from the switch. do you have a photo or a diagram of how you have put the diode into the loop? for the life of me i can't figure out how this all goes together?...

you should have a quick look at boxheads profile.

connect the green wire as shown, then cut it and solder a diode in where you cut it with the line on the diode body to the screen end, so it allows power to flow towards the screen only. Then the wire bringing 12 volts from your switch joins in to the green wire between the diode and the screen.

This will prevent the reverse lights coming on and also if you have an auto, it wont confuse the shit out of the driveline ecu and make the car think it is in reverse and drive at the same time and throw a code and light up the dash like a Christmas tree.
