I had one already installed and had one come with camera. So have a spare now, where you at?

hi mate, i'm in newcastle. got a harness on the way today or tomorrow. it's a pzq60-00141 and it's now going into a rav4. thanks for the offer though.

i'm not sure if the previous poster wanted to use the camera at any time, or be able to watch video files whilst mobile.

I'm still a bit confused on where the wire from the back of the head unit that connects to the reverse light wire is meant to connect? Is the wire in the car loom behind the head unit? Or do I have to extend the wire down to under my steering wheel?

Just fitted a genuine reversing camera to a 2012 SR5, and it won't play. All the plugs are good. When looking in info - systems check on the head unit, reverse stays as off when car is in reverse. Anyone else have this issue?

do you have the patch harness for the stereo with three wires with the scotch locks on them, should be Green(reverse sig), red(hand brake) and purple(speed), if it is there the green wire should go down under the steering colum, JB on the left, plug on the right side has a red and white(trace) wire in the plug thats the rev wire.

Just dont install the camera like the nube that did mine (predelivery for previous owner) and mount the camera below the number plate light. At night when the lights are on, the number plate light shines on the camera so all you see is glare in the screen

Hi all. Following up on all of this. My brother in law installed a reversing camera and wired the power lead to his park lights. That way he could check on his caravan while driving by simply turning on his parkers and the screen would activate.

The other trick I found with aftermarket dvd players (which should be the same for the DIVX format in the New hilux players) is that they require an earth wire to the hand brake to ensure you are parked before the screen will activate. The simple way around this is to run this screen hand brake wire to any earth. Then you can watch videos whenever you want (within reasonable driving conditions??)

I have no witty lines.

I just finished installing the new 2012 6.1" screen into my Landcruiser and have successfully hooked it up to an aftermarket camera. The video connection is on the 16 pin connector (top right looking from back) which also has the park brake cable on it. Pins 8 and 16 are the ones you want. Also, the head unit is looking for a camera when it boots up. If it 'sees' it, it will enable the reverse camera, if not, it will be disabled. If you connect your camera to the reverse lights, the HU will not activate the reverse feature cause the camera is not powered up. You can test this by putting the car into reverse and then turn the key from 'Off', straight to 'On' and it will now work. After this you may take the car out of reverse and put it back in and it will still work. Once you turn the ignition 'Off' it will no longer work. Conclusion; wire the camera to the accessories and not the reverse lights. The genuine camera gets 6v from the HU direct and the output is controlled internally. If the camera is not connected, I believe the 6v output is disabled.
Hope this helps.

I did a different approach to the install as per these instructions:

http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/showthread.php?t=113132

I am having issues with the 12V+ source. I tapped into a wire by my fuse box that only had +12V when the reverse was engaged. However my HU is not detecting it on power up, as described above by adamkberger. If I open the key switch with my vehicle in reverse I can see the cam image.

I am also curious as to what is being done when the instructions in the link say to bridge red and black.

Can somebody please post the instructions that come with the OEM camera some people here are retrofitting?

I'm desperate to get this solved!

For those who bought the after market camera off eBay, what type of camera did you get? PAL or NTSC? Thanks!

Hi all. I've got a 2012 sr5 hilux and have bought an aftermarket camera off eBay for $10 but the camera only has an RCA video cable connection and there is not one of these outputs in the back of the deck. Does anyone know of a connection cable or a trick on how to connect this? I opted for an after market because the toyota genuine ones cost $380 and that is a massive rip off since those tiny cameras only cost $2 to make.

Update: all sorted. So you can buy a connection cable from a place in Brisbane called mongoose for $30. Also another guy sells the connector, his name is Martin from hightek. All up cost me $40 for camera and connector.

The other way to go would be a Carbon Car Systems camera ... they have ones that plug'n'play with the OEM head units. I got mine for $159 and it is a CCD camera not the (supposedly lower quality/resolution) CMOS units that Toyota supply.

Unit came with wiring loom and full instructions ... Other than the time it took to run the cable to the rear of the hilux, connection only took about half an hour. Great quality picture too !
Cheers,

I know this was a while ago, but do you remember what model it was and is it installed on the factory pzq60-00051 unit that came with the car?
