Ok so heres my attempt at writing...... well a write up
This is the install of the provent 200 pcv seperator on my 2007 D4D SR5 Lux.
Time taken: about 90 minutes
Tools required: phillips and flat screwdrivers, socket set, hacksaw, stanley knife and 1 bandaid due to stanley knife
Step 1:
Remove engine cover and intercooler. Theres plenty of posts and topics on here to get this far.
Remove air intake from top of air box down to turbo by undoing hose clamps.
Remove pcv pipe that runs from the top of the crankcase down to the turbo, theres a screw into the block underneath the pipe that you will need to remove first.
Yours should now look like this:
Step 2:
Cut the pcv pipe at the bottom end (the end that was on the turbo) with a hacksaw leaving about an inch of pipe sticking out of the rubber boot that sat on the turbo flange itself.
Step 3:
Using the 1 inch hose cut two pieces off using the stanley knife so that once its pressed onto the filter unit theres still enough room to fit the reducers into the hose pieces as well. Mine were about 4 inches long. Fit onto the unit and secure with the supplied hose clamps.
Step 4:
Using the smaller 5/8" hose fit and secure with clamps onto the piece on pipe you have cut earlier and push down onto the turbo again.
Step 5:
Run hose to where you are going to put the filter and leaving a bit of extra room cut the hose. (mine ended up being roughly in half)
Step 6:
Using the other piece of 5/8" hose press onto the outlet off the crankcase and secure with hose clamp as well.
You can now start putting the intercooler and hoses back on and running the filter hoses where you see fit.
Press the drain pipe (if you purchased it as an extra part of the kit) onto the bottom of the filter and run the clear tube out of the way
Step 7:
Once you have decided where your going to place/mount the filter you can cut your hoses to length and secure onto the reducers with clamps.
NOTE: the top hose ie the one coming from the crankcase goes into the top of the filter and the bottom hose going to the turbo comes from the bottom of the filter.
Step 8: Tighten everything up again and re install the engine cover.
Step 9: Marvel at your finished product and place bandaid over cut on finger from earlier stanley knife mishap.
Things to note:
When ordering this kit there are different small hose sizes and reducer sizes depending on which vehicle you have. I told them I had a hilux but they still got me to check my fitting sizes just to be sure so if they ask you need the 5/8" hose and reducers.
I bought the universal kit that comes with the hoses and clamps and stuff but you can just buy the unit itself so make sure you get the kit.
The fitting on the turbo is actually a 1 inch fitting (as you can see in the first 2 photos) so if you had more of the 1 inch hose you could run it directly from the turbo to the filter without the need for any reducers but the kit only comes with about a foot of 1 inch hose which isnt enough so if you were to tell them you need about a metre more of the 1 inch when you order then you could do this. This would also negate the need to cut the original pcv pipe. I did ring and they are going to send me out some more but as im impatient and i need my car for tomorrow and seeing as though the pipe from the pcv is only 5/8" anyway your not going to get any better flow by using the bigger hose all the way to the turbo from the filter.
As my truck has abs room is very limited so what i ended up doing was pulling the engine wiring loom holder out of the back corner of the bay and push it back even further and placing the filter right in the corner between the abs pump and the brake booster. Its not secured by anything yet but its not going anywhere and it was the only spot i could see to place it. For trucks without abs this would be alot easier as theres stacks more room without the pump there.
Let me know what you guys think
