was it lockup or maybe coz they were new injectors there was air in them and "missfired" so to speak and caused something strange...anyways im not gonna argue its certainly possible i spose...something to keep in mind for those fitting them themselves

Nah could definitely hear and feel oil squeezing past the rings when turning her over by hand. Nobody was more surprised than me, never had this happen in 38 years of getting dirty.

How can you tell that you need new injectors? Unlike everybody else I'm not a diesel fitter  so don't know shit about engines and such. Because I have a sneaking suspicion that mine may be stuffed... :(

And does it reduce power/performance a lot if they are stuffed?

Does your engine ping and rattle when its cold? This is usually a sign, mine does and as soon as I scrape togeather the funds I'm getting new ones.

Dazza the mob I got mine from will send injectors to you, $2,200 plus freight.....West End Diesel in Sydney.
http://www.westenddiesel.com.au/ Ask for Tim and mention NewHilux forum.
Allaway there are several indicators, choppy idle, my economy had plummeted to about 520 Kms per tank, and I had the cold rattles too which can lead to serious engine damage if the injectors have started to dribble. Also my Toyota dealer did a test on my injectors and determined that one was cactus and at 185,000 Kms on the clock they were passed their use-by date in my opinion.

Just find a shop that will fit them and code them, All they need to do it write down the number printed on each injector and program that code into the Ecu.

Darren,
I had Nightcliff Motors in Winnellie install my Diesel Injectors. Dave is a good honest bloke. My Hilux is running sweet as now.

Gotta love Toyota dealers,,,, NOT!!!
Went in this morning to get my injectors coded, they didn't know what the hell I was talking about.
They told me the car shouldn't run after installing new injectors, until a PIN number is programmed in.
When I told them I drove the car there, they said there's no more that can be done, the car is right to drive.
After 3 bouts of...."hang on I'll just go and talk to the boys" .....at my insistence the receptionist finally rang a Denso dealer in Sydney to have it explained to him exactly what I was trying to tell him.
They eventually managed to do the job somehow, cost me $100.
Can't help wondering how many D4Ds are driving around Newcastle with new uncoded injectors.

Anyway, thank F$%K that's all over, engine running sweet, sounds quieter hot or cold, no cold rattle, idles smooth, power is up, hopefuly the economy comes back. :)

Thats awesome news bout the engine now running sweet! Typical of dealerships though....sometimes I wonder how they ever manage to repair/diagnose anything let alone make money! Were all staying tuned for the final economy test! :D

Lol...all they need to do is just plug in the laptop, and press ENTER! Oh then tell the Service Manager (who is usually the Oracle of all things mechanics) that its all done! Or just take that same laptop out the back and jump on NewHilux and find out how to fix the issue properly!!!

Has anyone heard of exchange injectors. Why I ask is that a Toyota stealer priced the replacement useing exchange injectors @ $3300 fitted with new pipes etc. Thoughts?

I got a quote back from westend for around $2900,diagnostic,new DLC injectors, fitted, coded, drive away.
i spoke to DENSO at the 4wd show eastern creek, and the exchanged injectors are old type injectors modified,I wouldnt spend the same money on reco ones as new ones, the bores wears out flogging up and down all day long,as well as the seats,to me its almost pointless to reco them being the same price as new.
They will come down on price soon enough, though.

Interesting your mate says they dont need recoding?????????,is he in the know about this issue with the injectors??? causes, design flaw, fuel????????
The couple of dealers Ive spoken too about the issues apart from flat out denying its a problem,I get the impression they dont know what cause is so they just throw new parts at it and blame dirty fuel,i have no faith in the dealers Ive delt with so far.

I went into premier Fuel injection up here in Darwin and they want $620 + gst per injector and recon it will be only $360 to install and code them, he said that only the injectors should need replacing does this sound right?

Cheers Darren
