heres my tray cost about $300 so far started on the floor just waiting to get my hands on a bender so i can make the headboard and rear stays

here it is with my camping setup

If you have a look in my shed you can see what i've done with mine. Mine is an extra cab so it will be a bit different to what you need.

- The tray cost $1300
- home made canvass canopy (metal frame and canvass) about $500
- undertray 80 Litre water tank $250
- tool boxes $300

I've got a perminant set of shelves inside with about five 12Volt power outlets as well as a solar panel connection and fridge power. All worth it in my view. I find it much more practical than a style side.

Although its not tall enough to stand bikes in the back

Hey Mitch, i got the rear carrier from here http://cgi.ebay.com.au/MOTOW-DIRT-TRAIL ... 27b592c9b0 and made a few adjustments to it (longer drawbar, lights)
The carrier holds a full size dirtbike.
That picture was taken at Cooktown 2009 on our last trip north.

Nice looking tray mate. I was wondering if you made those tie down points or if you bought them. If you bought them, where did you get them? They look really neat.

Also, has anyhow seen over centre latches like on xrdave's rig that are lockable? I was thinking of buying some like on dave's ute and slotting a hole that goes over a piece of flat with a hole in it for a padlock if that makes sense.

Also, tray is progressing slowly, LED tail lights are ordered, air tank has arrived, water tank and pump to purchase, headboard and sides are being fabricated at the engineering works, remaining steel will be being purchased this week some time. Welding to begin in 3 weeks.

Sprocket00, the tiedowns (7 of them) are bought ones and have a light spring to stop them rattling.
They were supplied by the tray builder, Brisbane Tray Bodies.

Hey all, You have seen my tray on my build but ill show it to you again anyway. Its a steel tray 1800long by 1840 wide. the canopy is full aluminium and is removable. one of these days ill take some good close ups of in side and the fuel filler as many poeople have asked how we made it work. any way here are some Picks.

I put tie down rails on, resprayed, 25mm Tas Oak deck and 4 stage hydraulic tipper with in cab control...
Everytime i am at the tip shuvelling a load off my trailer i think of her

Hi all,

Nice looking trays on here..

Ive just put a MAX tray on my dual cab.. Its a very nice tray.. The only problem I have with it is that its really high.. I think their brackets are too long so ill probably cut them down.. It might be just me though so what are your thoughts. Maybe someone could measure from the underside of thier tray to the top of their chassis rails for me to give me an idea..

Hey Guys, here are some pics of my tray for those interested.

Tray Specs;
1780 wide, this is the actual width of the sliders/existing guards from side to side
1600 long, the length of this is approximately just at the end of the towbar
(so overall the car is no longer or wider)
300mm sides
75mm mandrel bent tube front and rear
800 high
Rear bar is a 3 stage removable bar, it can be removed completely and have no tray sides, or i can remove the top bit of tube and have the sides on without the rear bar.
Has 4 removable top bars for canvas canopy later on
Led tail lights
Led spot reverse lights
85lt water tank and 85lt diesel tank mounted to underside of tray. Bolted to brackets welded to tray.
The floor is 3mm checkerplate but is not welded in it is one sheet fitted, painted and screwed in so it can be removed easily for any reason.
Towbar raised by approx 200mm and moved back by about 50mm to fit spare
Also have an ARB roof rack to sit ontop of bars


The height was worked out by a combination of;
33" tyre clearance
existing guard height (to make flares work)
rear window (basically 300 sides from underside of back window)
fitting the 2 85lt tanks and
clearance from the tanks to the exhaust.

Tray done by Western Metal Works in Melton Vic.
