Intro from Brisbane

Hey guys, im from Brisbane and work as an Electrcian around the CBD and suburbs. I drive a white 2005 SR hilux that is fairly stock at the moment apart from a few little extras. However i'll be looking to upgrade some things as soon as i get some money. I am going on a 4x4 trip next weekend with about 20 trucks, i'll be the only luxy in the crew which is unusual, but good in a way :)

Im happy to have found this Hilux community, it will be sweet to have questions and opinions to ask/answer back to in the future.

Quick Question -

I recently sustained a big dent in the front of my factory alloy bullbar. The damages are covered by insurance but i have been considering buying an aftermarket bull bar for a while now and this seems like the opportunity to do it. I have to get the damages assessed in the next few days by the insurance company and was wondering weather or not i should ask the assessor if instead of getting a new factory bullbar i could pay the difference and get an aftermarket one. However im not sure if they will let me. If they don't, is it fairly easy to sell factory bullbar's or will it be hard to get rid of?

Welcome aboard mate

Factory bars are expensive, should be able to get a good steel one for less than 2k

Hey mate -

I would just ask the assessor how much the bull bar is going to cost to replace.

Then just say you want a ARB bar or something along the lines and see what happens

Never know if you dont try

Enjoy
Cheers Seb.

Awesome, we are going to Rover Park which is just out of Tenterfield in NSW, we have been doing it for the last 4 years over Easter. As far as i know there is 14 confirmed trucks a few people pulled out because of commitments and stuff.. It's always good fun there, if you haven't been i recomend it.

Welcome to New Hilux

As mentioned, it won't hurt to ask about the new bar.
But if I was an assessor, I'd look at claims like that with a little more skepticism.
Not saying yours is not legitimate, but you get where i'm coming from.
Might be easier to take the new replacement, then hock it off and make the difference, at least you won't risk your claim then.
