Well im finally getting around to posting up my build for everyone to look at and so I can see where all my money has gone! (hope the misses never reads this ) Back in January we decided the commodore ss ute just wasnt cutting it, didnt suit our needs anymore, while it looked good and went hard thats where it stopped. I was keen on a cruiser or pootrol but we had a baby on the way so it had to be a dual cab and I didnt want anything short of a hilux. I was looking at older models due to a smaller budget but the new look had me by the balls, they just looked to good.

Ended up with up a 2005 SR D4D manual with 100,000kms for $27,000 on the road. Driving home I wasnt sure if id done the right thing, drive in with a sexy ss ute with all the extras and mods, 270 rwkw and sounded unreal and driving out with a diesel which felt extremely slow compared to the ss, no tint, no cruise, no nothing...... But since have fallen in love with the hilux and haven't looked back.







I miss it but definately no regrets!

When I first got the ute the only plans were to fit a bullbar, driving lights and some sort of basic tray, I did do these things but somehow the list grew, a lot and hasnt stopped.

First thing to do was the fit the arb winch bar which I picked up off ebay which has led blinkers but it has got a few little dints. I cleaned it up a little and gave it a paint job to match the ute, was black before. Looking back I could have done a much better job of it and I might just pull it off someday and do it properly. At the moment its good from far but far from good...



Next was to organise a tray so I put the ladder racks and tub straight onto ebay, not really expecting the tub to sell but it did and found myself with a ute and nothing to go on the back just yet so knowing the father inlaw had just got a new tray for hilux which he hadnt fitted yet, I grabbed that off him till I got to and built mine.





So most nights after work I got to out in the shed and built the tray, couple of weeks later and it was almost done, all the little things seemed to take forever to get finished!











I built the tray longer and wider then average, 1900mm wide and 1930mm looonnggg. Did this for both work and so I could fit the dirt bikes on the back but after finishing it I found the extra length was a pain in the arse when offroad and when putting on trailers as the towbar was well under the tray! So I have since shortened the tray 330mm back to 1600mm and love it!

Shortening the tray wasn't an issue as there is now another couple of hiluxs for work if I need, an old 84 extra cab and a 98 single cab. And as far as fitting the bikes on the back I just built a trailer for the job.

to fit your tyres 305'70R16, did you just have to do the normal cutting and triming to make them fit?

I cut the body mounts back as far as I could which ive posted here viewtopic.php?f=41&t=7273&start=0

Also done some "careful" panel beating to the inside of the guard down near the body mount by getting a large hammer and belting the crap out it, got the heat gun out and reshaped the plastic inner guard and also reshaped the utemart flares, cut some bits out aswell.

After doing all this there is plenty of clearance (around 10mm) on the passenger side even at its closest part but on the drivers side there is a small amount of rubbing on the plastic inner guard and its very close to the body mount, but this is only when offroading fairly hard, since both sides are cut back the same im assuming its a wheel alignment issue, not something I fully understand yet but i'll sorting this out in the coming week I hope.

Yer ive had a few bikes in the past 10yrs, started with ag bikes then a dt200 for a month, 2000 wr400, stepped backwards to a 2001 cr125, total waste of money, then a zx2 (250 roadbike), a yfz450 ( 4 wheeler which I loved), then a yz450f, 04 model also the 4 speed, just sold my 96 cbr900rr regrets already. Now ive got a 09 wr450f and for the farm a grizzly 700 fuel injected, 4x4, diff locks, power steering, I love this almost more then the hilux, goes anywhere. Also a trusty ctx200 for the farm aswell....

Next for the lux was a pair of driving lights, always had lightforce in the past and loved them so I went with a pair of those, 240 blitz, both have spot covers on them for the moment. Got these on fleabay 2nd hand aswell for $200.
Through out my build you might noticed im a tight arse at times buying some stuff 2nd hand, while I try buy good quality stuff if I can save a dollar I will, so 2nd hand stuff will do me fine lol doing things this way lets me get things done at less than half the cost and means twice as quick.
Sorry went track a bit there, now wiring up those driving lights is what got me onto this site, I wire them up, pretty much finished until when I turn the lights off the spotties come back on....... so come home and jump on google and found you guys, here is where the bank account really starts to suffer

Next up was a set of rims and tyres, also went on fleabay for this and got a set of 5 rims and 6 tyres, 4 basically new cooper stt tyres 31x10.5 on 15x7 silver rims, also two average khumo mud tyres for spares.

First thing to do was to test these puppies out, went out to our other farm after a rain and had a play, now im POSITIVE we took this a little to far but I must say we had several hours of fun.......

This is the hilux's ability to camoflage....
It was after this I decided a set of flares were definately needed!
