HI Guy's,

Let me start by saying "great site", been a member for while and have read and learnt so much from the site..... :D

First post here, so i thought I would share with you some photo's and what my plans are.

Vehicle
07 SR5 Dual Cab TD Auto bog stock apart from tub liner.

I'm having 31x10.5 15 fitted to the standard SR5 alloys tomorrow in wait for it, ATS Yokies. Was going to fit BFG At but have spoken to a couple of people who are running them and they advise they are pretty good. In reality the Lux gets used as a daily drive company car and a weekend warrior when I can get out there (I would like to say at least once a month), so I took their advice and went with the Yokies, for the price if they are no good I will change over to BFG At.

I have also order a lift kit from Climax suspension here in Newcastle which comprises of the following and due to be installed end of the month.

Ironman 3 inch front springs heavy
Bilsteins Struts
Ironman 2 inch Leafs Comfort
Bilstien Shocks
shackles
New Bushes

Also having fitted at the same time Ironman Dulex Commercial bar and winch along with hard lid cover. Has any had anyone had experience with the Ironman bars or winches?

To be fitted once arrived ARB rear step tw bar, should be here in 3 weeks all going well.

Wish list: -
Muddies on 16 inch rims
Dual Battries
TJM Snorklel
Side rails and sliders
Reversing camera

Anyway here are pic's of her naked

That looks like a great starting point mate. I have an Ironman commercial bar fitted to my hilux. Really happy with the bar. The only down side is the plastic infill pieces under the headlight are a little bit flimsy and dont hold there shape as well as others like ARB etc. But overall for the price I am very happy..........

cheers murf

hey Mick, from personal experience i would steer well clear of the ironman bull bars especially if u have a winch installed i only got to use my winch once when we were up cape. due to the way the winch is mounted it broke my chassis plates on the front. have taken it to ironman and we have since got our money back... no questions asked, dont get me wrong if there isnt a winch installed they work great as a bull bar

aim for a bigger brand with more bracing, once you compare mounting systems of different bars you will recognise a certain trend for more expensive bars to have a few more brackets.

good luck with your hilux

Thanks guy's will post more pic's once the mods start happening.

Murf - Ironman bar does look good, I think I'm going to keep mine black and not colour code it.

Leroy - Will talk to the supplier and have a look at ARB today, thanks for the tip was going to get a winch fitted at the same time..... Now more reserach me thinks will have to be put in. Not planning on going to the cape anytime soon though. Did you bar and winch work ok in other situations?

Well in this afternoon for the new tyres and very soon the lift. Carn't wait to get on to get it on...............

Mick, the bar works great for everything and i cant say enough about the winch but the bullbar mounts to the end of the crush tubes on the chassis, due to this and how high the winch mounts the winch rotates puts more force on the top of the chassis mounts and bends the top eventually breaking it. if you want the winch as some added insurance you kinda want it to be reliable and not wreck stuff...

good luck in choosing a bullbar there is a build on here this is exactly the same as mine

Thanks for that leroy. Seems like after some discussion with a few places the new designed Ironman Delux commercial bar has fixed this problem. Does anyone have a comment on this??

I'm now worried that It will crack the chassis rails and fall off whilst winching up a hill or out of a bog.

Got quoted today from TJM for their new T13 delux bar fitted with the 12.5% discount (til 30th September) for $1,649.25 not colour coded......Seems like a good deal. Anyone have a comment about these bars?

Once again thanks for all the good advice

Re: Mick's Lux build - Whats Happened So Far

Postby helmut79 on Tue, 28 Dec 2010 6:44 +0000

Well it’s been awhile since I have updated what’s been going on with the Lux, so here we go. Well first things first the lift has still not been installed as have had other things to spend my $$$ on and I have decided to go with the Monster Rides Rekon suspension with the diff drop bracket (as per Twisty build)which helps to gain almost stock CV angles with a 3” plus lift). The reason for the Rekon kit is not only to support a form sponsor but the shock is full re-buildable and is custom made to your height and weight carrying requirements. The best part it offers 11” of wheel travel when combined with the aftermarket UCA’s.   So more to come on this in the following months.

So what have I done so far, well most of the mods have been for my sons entertainment and mine, performance and protection.

First things first were a set of new boots, went with 31's in a Yoko AT. Have found them very good in the bush / sand and only start to fail in the mud. Have done about 5,000kms on them so far and find them great on road and even better in the wet.

Image

The next item on the list was a Buddy Bash Plate and Engine Guard. Both these items have save my bacon many a time especially the bash plate as being stock it dose sometimes hit in the front.

Image

Image

After these came the Entrainment side of things where I had installed a new head unit, an Eclipse AVN726E touch screen, DVD, CD, USB input, Navi double din unit with reversing camera. Very good unit and has a great Bluetooth function for your phone. Reverse camera is 180 degrees with night vision, works very well. Fits nicely into the factory slot aswell 8-)

Image

Image

Included in this install was two Schneider 8” head rest DVD players. Each can be played individually or linked together or you can even link the front head unit too play on all three. 8-) They come with wireless head phones and now make long trips so much easier. Highly recommended for anyone looking into these.

More to come in the next piost

Mate the lux is coming along beautifully!
You got some great mods there and by the sounds of it some great more to come. Well done!!
But I am particually interested in the headunit, as I will be shortly getting one and was looking at the a-sure option but this one you got 'Eclipse' looks awesome! If you don't mind me asking, what did it cost? Anything else you can say about the headunit....

Looking great Mick. You've certainly done your homework and I for one can't wait to have a fellow newhilux member running the Rekon suspension as well. You won't be sorry, Matty and the boys will look after you without a doubt.
Keep up the good work mate

I also had a Focal slim line sub with amp all in one unit installed with the head unit. Sub size is 10” and makes a great sound is loud enough to rattle change in the centre console and have people wonder where to bass is coming from at the lights.   They installed under the front passenger seat which is not where I wanted it so it will be moved to under the back seat next year. Might even get another one can’t have enough bass.  Again a very highly recommended product for those who want subs in a dual cab without building a custom box behind the rear seat.

Image

And last but not least was a UHF GME3100 CB. Fitted it on the ash tray looks not too bad.

Image

Aerial, very exciting.  Need to get a better one, but does the job for now.

Image

The next items to arrive were car of Buddy and Matt and weighed in at over 40kg for the package. The delivery bloke almost died getting them up the stairs to our office. Used then out on Saturday on a steep but short downhill decent with a high ramp over. Thank you Guy’s very nice product and again highly recommended.

Now comes the good stuff

Thanks Jack.

I think it was $1,895 plus $300 for the camera but because I got a fair bit of stuff got it much cheaper. The guy's that run the shop are Armenians so they love to haggle a deal and use one liners like "I will cut off my balls if this is not the best system you have heard"

So when VMN had a one year birthday sale and offered up the VMN chip at 15% off I could not refuse and grab myself one. Installed it and after a hick up on the first go (left the inlet pipe half off so air was rushing past the air flow sensor and it idled like dog) got on the second and took it for a spin and holly shit it went like the clappers (well as good as a diesel anyway). Tried to install the chip in the glove box but the rubber grommet through the fire wall is not bigger enough to fit the fitting end through so I put it up near the brake master cylinder and wrapped the plug and wires with electrical tape to make it a bit water proof. Need to come up with some kind of shield / box to put it in but more on that later as I have no ideas.

Image
Image

As you can see with the blue wires extended the positive and negative wires was the only other things to do.

Image

After this it was time for Nevember so as I did not have a tow bar need some rear recovery points (in hindsight did not need them and could have forgone the bar) and as the Buddy bar was still a while off I went out and got the ARB GRADER bar. Kept it black as I’m going with a black on silver look, hope it works. Even put some NewHilux.net stickers on it for extra street cred and 2hp

Image

And it working like a grader on the weekend and the old man stealing my seat while I took happy snaps

Image

Sprint Booster arrived and Xmas eve big thank to Brendan for getting it to me so quickly. This is a great product and for the price makes it very affordable. To anyone thinking for it just do it

Had a fight with the poll at work in the car park which cost me 10hp   Lucky the Buddy bar will be ready soon so can get rid of the stock bumper anyway

Image

But got a NewHilux.net sticker on the rear window so gained back the lost Hp.   Forgot, hard lid came back in September from H2OPRF (Darren) big thank you for your help with installing it mate.

Image
Image

And the way she looks today, think the black on silver looks pretty alright.

Image

Well future plans are some muddies on either 16” or 17” still have not decided but will be 33’s. Canopy with draws and fridge, dual batteries and front bar. That should take care of most things but will keep it updated when things change
