No, this is not required. You just need one of VMN's kits that has everything plus 12 pages of instructions. You can grab one for your truck here:
http://www.vehiclemods.net.au/shop/vmn- ... y-lift-kit

Also, I've done a deal with Bud's Customs and have a spare ARB bullbar mount here to ship out on an exchange basis modified to suit a 50mm VMN body lift kit. I'll sell it to you at a very reasonable price (plus a deposit). You ship your mount back to me and I refund the deposit and I'll get it modified for the next person!

Just my air intake hose, I added a piece of stainless which was easy! Everything else stretched without a drama. Mines a diesel, not sure about petrol models.

Mines a VMN kit so it had almost everything I needed; bodylift blocks, longer bolts, radiator drop brackets and steering extension, only thing left for me to was get the tube to extend the intake ( I think his kit now includes that, unsure) and alter my bar which wasn't to hard in the end.

Mitch, Yours must be an early kit. We now supply a length of thin walled aluminium tube and hose clamps as well as an extended vacuum line in our diesel engine kits. This is why there is a slight price variation between petrol and diesel kits. To my mind the stainless is too heavy to be suspended in the air inlet. When the vaccuum hose comes off, you have no brakes :o

Buddy lifts it pretty much the same as the photos but with some additional bracing and very pretty welding! Pricing has yet to be settled but I was hoping it would work out about $200-ish plus a similar deposit so if I don't get the part back, I am not too much out of pocket. I've got some pics somewhere that I should have put up ages ago.

Matske's ute is wearing some of Bud's handiwork courtesy of VMN and he asked an engineer about the finished job and was told that Buddy had used 40 tonne welds!

Hi Mitch, Mike here from Botswana. I am looking at putting a 50mm lift on my hilux. I have the auto box so the gear shidt is not a problem as cable operated. Was there any effect on the 4x4 gear lever with the lift?

Yep, still worked but hard to get back into 2wd, I had to trim slighty and it works perfect again. Never had to do this with my first ute though so it must vary from vehicle to vehicle...

Cheers, Mitch

Just read thru this thread outstanding work. For me there has been 2 reasons not to fit BL the first was my beloved ARB bar. Now it looks like I cant use that as an excuse, its only the second reason and thats the legal implications of doing this mod in NSW.
After speaking with another well known Engineer down here he stated it would be very unlikely that anyone would sign off on separating the body from the chassis. Are you fellas getting it certified ? or is that not required in your states or are you doing it and just thinking positive? ;) ;) ;)
Regardless well done
Kyle

Is there a bolt on setup for the arb side steps/side bars to go with arb bar?

Not that I am aware of. You'd be better off putting on real sliders and having them made to suit the BL. Buds Customs or Outback Accessories could sort you out.

Hi Mitch, thanks for the reply. Another question around the height and stability. I have already fitted OME suspension to my hilux as well as an additional 30mm lift blocks to the front to level the vehicle. Overall I would say it is about 50mm higher than standard from the suspension. I have also fitted 276/75/16 tyres which lifted it a bit more from standard. I am looking at making up a 50mm body lift kit for it and going to a 285/75/16 tyre. I am not sure how much higher overall from standard your vehicle is, but what is the strability like. Another thing that we do here when we go into the bush is put a roof top tent on the top to sleep off the ground and away from preditors. The tent is about 50kg. Just wondering in your opionion what the overall effect would be of the increased height from the body lift and tyres with the tent on top. Cheers Mike (Botswana)

I've also got roof top romance tent and awning above my canopy, conopy is currently full, I'm running a 2 inch suspension lift, the 2 inch body lift and 305/70/16 which also give roughly 2 more inchs of lift. I find the handling and ride awsom both on road and out bush. Obviously what ever lift and set up you have you drive accordingly. Not sure where your from but you might want to check whats legal and what's not if that worries.

Thanks Mitch. I am also looking at tyres with your same diameter after the body lift. Have you changed diff ratios at all? We are not regulated with regards to what we do to vehicles here, which is quite nice.
