Nice progress!
Those 4wd supa center draws to be honest are not that bad from what I've seen. If it weren't for my mates 30yr old draws which he handed down to me I would have bought them [emoji1303]
Quick question : what's with the dent on the side ?

Yeah they actually don't seem to bad at all, especially when they are just in the back of the ute and going to get stuff thrown on them.
 the one in the rear door? Not sure, it was there when I bought it. The bloke said someone hit it with a trolley in a carpark... it does not look like it's from a trolley to me!!
If I can get a door from a wreckers at the right price I will otherwise the old man used to be a panel beater so I'll just ask him for a hand to sort it out

TRS build

Postby Tyler1993 on Sun, 03 Sep 2017 1:41 +0000

Okay so been putting off dealing with the suspension because because Ive had no serious wheeling trips planned but I'm definitely going to have to get it sorted now.
The upper control arm was coming into contact with the spring on full droop so I got a aftermarket set of upper control arms to stop this and get full travel of the new struts.

Image
This opened up a can of worms.
First impressions were great! Did exactly what I intended. They no longer contact the spring and I Got 50mm more down travel
First drive however a few things became evident under compression the new upper control arms contact the remote reservoirs, This is no problem, an easy fix I'll just move the reservoirs to a better location. I was thinking about doing this anyway. Where have you guys got yours mounted??

next thing I noticed grease coming out of the inner cv boots around the inner seal.
Im guessing this is because they have been over extended?
Image

On full droop the outer cv boot rubs on the shock mount on the lower control arms

Image

I also noticed when trying to turn the wheel when its at full droop it spins freely for a bit the jams up and it kind of pops over something then spins freely for a little bit then does the same. Does anyone know whats happening here?

What are you guys doing to prevent this?

I have sourced some high clearance outer boots which are designed for that exact reason ( where the boot contacts the shock mount) So that bit should be sorted, im just worried about the jamming of the wheel rotation and whats thats going to do at speed whilst lifting a wheel 4wd'ing

I knew they had to have a limit but I wouldn't have thought struts designed for our hiluxs would push them to that limit.
Do you think If I replaced the stock cv's with the cvs they advertise for raised hilux's this would overcome the issue?
Or do I have to limit the droop in some way or another?

Thats where i mounted my remote reservoirs. Used stainless zipties to secure the line to to chassis rail.
Ive also got monster rides droop limiters in mine but ive found i dont get nearly as much droop out of the dobinsons struts as i did with the matrix ones i had in before

Pillar pod and REDARC gauge got put in this week. I decided to just have the one gauge because I couldn't think of anything to put in the second or third hole. I only really wanted EGT and water temp so I got the one that does boost EGT and an optional temp.
ImageImage

Tapped a thread into the alloy housing where the top radiator hose goes into the head, toyed with the idea of getting one of those adaptors where you cut the radiator hose but decided this would be a better option.
Image

had to weld in the bung that came with the EGT probe as I only have the stock exhaust with the muffler deleted
Originally tried one of those cold weld packs you can get from autobarn or the like. because I knew the dump pipe would be a bitch to get off.
I don't know if I f*&%ed it up or what but followed the instructions and it fell off after the first drive [emoji1]
So ended up pulling it off and doing it properly

Gauge is awesome quality very impressed with it, but the bastard is bright at night.
I looked at the "enhanced lighting controller" from redarc as they give you the impression that this is the only thing that can dim their gauges. I did not like the idea at all, from what I could understand and correct me if I'm wrong, is that you can only set two brightnesses, one for when the lights are on and one for when they are off. As I like to drive with my headlights on in the day when doing long drives or on dirt roads this meant the gauge would be dimmed in full daylight making it hard to see.
Image
So I thought I'd try a little experiment, after all its only lit by an led I couldn't see why an led dimmer wouldn't dim it.
A trip to jay car and $14 later I purchased one of those LED dimmers for the strip camping lights.
Pulled it apart and wired it into the gauge. Worked like a charm I can now set it at what ever brightness I need.
Put the dimmer into the panel beside the steering wheel where I'm assuming the SR5 have a dash light dimmer and bought a black knob for it also from jaycar

The extra little black button it to program the gauge

Begun the body lift today!
Only did the tub and stripped out everything for the cab as I had to work thismorning, Hate working saturdays [emoji49]

Was fairly easy and straight forward, Had to make a few little modifications to the blocks that sit on the chassis rail to get them where they needed to go

Little bracket I made to relocate the fuel filler

Had to slide abit more tube of the filler out of the hose to get it where I needed
