2012 Hilux from stock UPDATE: need help uploading photos ple

Postby Miss_Gytr on Mon, 08 May 2017 11:51 +0000

Hey guys. Just bought a 2012 SR5 Hilux and is bone stock. Bought with only 26,000kms on the clock and super excited to start modifying her. I Have a massive list and love to share my ideas and would love to hear anybody elses ideas for me.
My partner and i are all for Petrols. Im not a big fan of the diesels but each to their own. Also wanted a manual and they stopped making the Petrol manuals so had to jump on this one when i seen it.
Bought the new hilux because our old 3.4L hilux is getting old and wanted to retire her from towing but will always keep her as she has had alot of money spent on her.
Here is the New Hilux as we bought her.

What we have done so far:

3D Floor Mats from EBay
Image

SuperTrim Neoprene seat covers from EBay
Image
Image

Genuine Bonnet Protector
Image

Tinted Weathershield From EBay
Image

MCC Rear Jack Bar
Image

Speedy Ambush Rims (Not yet on car)
Image

Havent decided on tyres yet. Really would like 275/70R17 because the 265 is abit too small and 285 are abit too big.
Thinking between BFG Ko2 and Cooper STT Maxx. Previously wanted bfg KM2 but dont make them in that size, nor do any brand really make a mud terrain in that size.

Dont have Pictures but have also fitted:
Redarc Towpro Elite
12v Socket behind rear seat on Drivers side of vehicle

This is the list of things to do:
Snorkel
Sahara Bar (White with Black Hoop)
Rock Sliders
2" Outback Armour Lift Kit - DONE
No Drill Polyair Airbags - DONE (Airbag Man)
GME UHF Aerial AE4705B
Uniden UH8080S UHF Radio
Anderson Plug Kit
Runva Premium 11XP Winch - Ordered DominatorX
Powdercoating Sports Bar - DONE
Front + Rear ELockers
Diff Breathers
Round LED Spotlights - -
Dual Battery System SBI12 with interior switch
DCDC Charger Redarc 40A/25A
Deep Cycle 2nd Battery
Reverse Camera - DONE
Full Exhaust & Extractors
Window Tint
Alarm System
Recovery Kit
Water Bra
Phat Bars Diff Drop
BLack Hawk extended Upper control arms
Phat bars Bash Plate
Sway bar Spacers

This is the old lux.

Will post more as the build goes on!!

26/05/17
Lift kit has arrived will be putting it in tomorrow.
Image

Here it is.

50mm Outback Armour Lift
Complete Struts, Heavy duty to suit winch and bullbar
50mm Unladen Rear leafs. No constant load.

Before
Image

After :D
Image

Trial fitted some 275/70r17s but unfortunately they didnt fit :( Was hitting on the front Flare, inner guard and the rear of the inner guard even with the mudflap removed.
Image

Image

We ran out of caster adjustment so going to be getting some Extended Control arms. Most likely Black Hawk and get the bullbar then retry the 275/70R17s!

Current measurements
After
Front: 600mm
Rear: 640mm

Will remeasure in a few 1000kms.

Vibration evident after lift! Outback armour had supplied me with 2 degree castor wedges which improved the vibration but still there. Will be getting bigger degree wedges soon, just need to measure the angles of the unis.

18/06/17

Airbags have been fitted and so far so good. Ride is abit rough still because theres no bullbar or winch fitted yet. The valves fit perfect in the mcc bar. We have Airbag Man Bags fitted to suit 50mm lift.

Also had the Sports bar Powdercoated Satin Black and only cost $120. Makes it look much much better

The DominatorX winch has arrived and i have ordered an ARB Sahara Bar in full white with a Black center hoop. Have to wait a month to get it though unfortunately and have to buy a Offset Hawse Fairlead to suit the winch. Will be getting a black one but will post photos as soon as it is done!

Nice truck, enjoy the build :D BTW where did you get the power for the extra socket? I'm looking for a power take off which is acc switched under the dash.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

I got power directly from the battery because i wanted constant power for a fridge. You can get accessory power off the back of the top left 15amp fuse in fuse box under the steering wheel. Ive used Double Mini Blade Fuse Socket Wire Taps at work plenty of times which is nice and easy.

Just bought an underseat Kicker Sub/Amp combo to put behind the back seat. Just fits behind but cant lift the seat up to take it completely out so have to pull the seat forward and remove the sub/amp first But that doesnt bother me because the seat wont have to come out very often if ever again. Can still lift the bottom of the seat fine.
Problem im having is i dont know how to stop the bottom of it from moving because i dont want to drill into the back of the cab. The straps hold the top fine so thinking maybe just double sided tape or something like that. If anyone else has ideas let me know. Thanks guys!

It is fun starting with a blank canvas. I'm finding a need to balance the excitement? to get it done vs the desire to get it right. Just gotta slow down and enjoy the process.
For the amp I guess the options are a hanger bracket from the rail or double sided tape. The weight is supported by the straps so you just want to stop it flapping, either double sided tape or stick on Velcro. That looks like vents in the top / front, will it get enough airflow with the seat in situ?

Wouldn't be too concerned about airflow, ya no doin any db drag racing! Ya could try gluing a board to the rear pannel and mounting ya stuff on that. Have the board go all the way to the floor that way all the weight is supported. Have done a few like this in the past.

Theres quite a large gap between the seat and sub when the seat is down. just touches when its pulled up but it does come up all the way which is good.
I was thinking double sided tape or velco. nice and simple so worth a try.
Good idea TOYZX. If the Tape fails i will definitely try that. Thanks

We measured the distance between centre of hub to flare before and after
Before
Front: 500mm
Rear 540mm

After
Front: 600mm
Rear: 640mm

I swear the measurements must be wrong though because its a 50mm kit not 100mm. Just got to wait and see when it sags back down. Maybe we measured wrong before we fitted the kit. Hard to double check it now though.
Front Struts are Expedition kit
Rear Leafs are Trail 50 which is 50mm unladen (because will be fitting airbags)

Maybe your old springs were sagging 50mm? My fronts avg 470mm, but that's old suspension now with winch and bar work. Do you know the stock height off the top of your head?

No idea on the stock height now. should settle down abit in a few weeks time. Will also be putting a bullbar and winch on in the coming months too.

I dont know if my measurement would be accurate because mine has 17".
Air Bags Because we tow a 1.8t camper trailer alot. Will be set up for alot of travelling but not serious offroad.

If ya tow it alot then why not just the correct springs? Only ever seen bags cause trouble if use a lot.

Re your measurements..Did you drive it a few kms and then measure, or was it straight of the jack? They all need a bit of a drive to help them settle. Adjustable struts , you can screw them up 10mm , drop it and it might be sitting 30mm higher.... drive it and it will come back....
