Taresk's really slow build

Thought I'd do up a thread, if only to help myself keep track of when I did what, there will be some things done differently to the masses, but most will be run of the mill.

It's a 2007 V6 SR5 auto

So here it was the day I picked it up from the dealer, no barwork, just a 2" Ironman lift, and a basic ARB canopy, Prado rims with 32" tyres, otherwise stock. In case you're wondering why the front was left out of the photo, I was trying to include the SSV wagon, which was my trade-in.

Image

First mod was simply putting my forum handle on it, via new plates.

Image

After that, I started on performance, with some top shelf fluids, full Xado treatment, and TRD filters.

Image

I've also fitted a GME UHF, and re-did the window tint (no pics)

So, as for future plans... Heavily edited due to heavy reduction in penalty rates at work

Powertrain
-modified TRD CAI
-Exhaust upgrade
-Engine tune
-maybe in the future a supercharger (it could still happen) ;)

Drivetrain

4.1 gears I have these now, just need time and money for this install
As for lockers, my wallet has decided that I'll be fitting auto lockers front and rear, with an ADD override to help with tight, slow turns.

Front Suspension
I'm going to stop re-editing this, turns out I might be able to swing an IVD setup after all, however it wont be the flash dual shock, forged UCA setup originally planned.

Rear Suspension
At this stage, most likely IVD shocks, Rockcrawler leaves, with a view to a parabolic upgrade down the line

Wheels
I've decided I actually like the IVD alloys, unfortunately being 17's this means I need to find room for 305's or downgrade from XTerrain to Xtreme MT/2 tyres

Body
some rear bar, would like a Buds bar, but budget may make it an MCC instead
some sliders.
Considered a spray liner, but going to just throw a bedrug in.
Random ricer bling
Underbody protection
Long range fuel tank

Miscellaneous
Rear seat mod
2L ADD mod
Car alarm
Winning lottery ticket to pay for all this crap :D (this can stay, if i can source one, I can change all this again)

Thanks, my only comparison with stock tyre size is from the brief test drives when I was looking for one to buy, but to be honest, it's barely noticeable.
Still plenty of power on the road, and still crawls nice and slowly in low range, never seeming to struggle, and fuel economy is still averaging around 11l/100km for town/highway mix (driving smoothly, but not slowly)

The bonus is that my speedo is dead-on with my gps.

Keen to see how it handles 33's

Just some minor updates...

Some TuRD enhancements, blacked out pillars, badges & grille.

And my signature Bushdriver inspired light rack assembled and ready to mount, still figuring out the wiring.

I'm aiming to be rolling on 33's in the next month or so, front bar comes after that so I can fit a proper UHF antenna, and some driving lights (still haven't really decided which bar I want).

Not sure what will go on after the bar.

Hey taresk,

how did you black out your pillars? A vinyl wrap or paint? - been wanting to do that for a while now - looks good methinks..

Just a small roll of gloss black vinyl wrap off ebay (about $20 from memory). I did a rough job of it (tiny gaps between window frame and vinyl because I rushed it), but as long as you don't look too close, it looks good :D

Thanks, yeah, I thought as much - I was worried about getting it under the rubbers and around the tape holding the visor on...I won't ask for any close up pics... ;)

I took off the old visors and put a new set on afterwards (bought a 4 door set though I can't put the rears on till I move the UHF antenna)

I misjudged the edge cut under the rubbers, once I stuck it down it was right on the edge, with a half mill gap in some places, if I'd cut a little less off, the edges would've gone under the rubbers

If you actually take your time it can look spot on.

Yeah, you're not wrong :D

Although the blower will probably be about the last thing on this list to get done, the re-gear and gearbox mods will make a huge difference in the meantime.

I just need to find a better paying job so I can tick stuff off the list faster than adding stuff to it ;)

Or maybe I can just win the lottery and do something like this: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =1&theater

I got the grille off ebay, a little flimsy compared to the stock grille, but it looks the goods :)

As you can see I now have my 33's :D

They're 285/75R16 Pro Comp XTerrains on 16x8 0 offset Gecko steelies (was going to get alloys, but couldn't find a set I liked, so that was moved to the backburner.

You may also notice that when I touched up the paint on my front bumper I got carried away with the spray can and painted my side steps in satin black, I think it looks good.

For my own records, these were fitted at roughly 105,000km on the ODO.

Re: Taresk's really slow build, Now with extra XTerrain :)

Postby taresk on Fri, 11 Apr 2014 12:23 +0000

After much umming and ahhing over bullbar choice, ARB, Buds, Axis, Xrox, in the end it came down to budget.

So I bought a cheap one off ebay, and now i've got to decide if I stick it on as-is, or colour match it, or modify it, or both.

Also gotta decide if I wait till I have a winch before sticking it on, or try and fit one later, hmmm...
