Oh hell yeah. It is really nice. Only thing that kills me. Every 15 km or every 3 rd corner there is a village with people again. No Chance to spent some time alone. Like you guys Hit the road, and you dont See a Human for days. That is so great !

Is taking the muffler out legal? Would be nice to do if it gives it that waste gate noise a bit louder.. Pretty cheap too

no more illegal then buying a exhaust without a muffler in it
... its not to loud just cruising around but sounds awesome under load like driving in sand and yeah gives it a wastegate noise on gear changes

You know the point is. They use Chemical bombs in middle east, China is a big cloud of smoke. But takin a muffler off is illegal. There is no point for that !!

hooked up a dual battery system the other day consisting of:

ARB battery tray
Ctek 250s dual charger
OPTIMA D27M blue top battery

the ctek makes it so easy to install any noob can do it. also ran some cable to the tray and installed a 12v supply so i can have my fridge in the tray.

got a WAECO CFX50 fridge the other day and so far im pretty impressed. went for an over night camp the other day and just had it running off an old battery and it lasted 24hr and voltage was still at 12.4v. going to dog fence in 8 days so that will test it out see if the optimas live up to their reputation.

was over the west coast fishing when i thought i blew my turbo up. lost all top end power and couldnt rev it past 3000rpm.. so after driving home 800km at 80km/h (to dark to pull apart on side of road) i pulled off the engine cover and found a tiny little vac line popped out. put it back in place and it fixed the problem  for a little bit there i thought i had an excusse to buy a bigger turbo

Just out of interest how is your herculiner holding up now it's been on a while? Are you happy with it? Thinking of doing the same to mine but interested to see how this DIY stuff conpares to getting it done professionally...

herculiner is doing ok... seems it took a few months for it to get a really good bond to the tub but now its good. most of the bigger scratches in it were from the first month i put it on. it cleans really easy with the pressure washer after a few weeks on the beach. pretty happy with it over all

but rihno lining would be a lot better but costs a fortune and i couldnt justify it. my mate has it in his navara and a fishing rod put a huge gouge in it so it definatley isnt bullet proof either. also he had to get a new rear quarter and it cost him just as much to spray 1 panel as it did to get the whole tub done in the first place

repeat after me ALWAYS DISCONNECT BATTERY WHEN WORKING ON ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

upgraded to a 130 amp alternator on my last days off but during a brainfade moment got too keen and shorted the charge wire blowing my fusible link so now im waiting for new one.

also upgraded front brakes to brembo slotted rottors with bendix ultimate pads in preperation for my dual diaphram brake booster to arrive :D just need to get some braided lines made.

got a set of jungle flares and dropped them off to local fiberglassers to reinforce the hell out of them now i think theyll be stronger then the panel thats holding it. yet to be installed.

picked up a set of premade draws from another hilux. fridge was on the right side for my lift window and theres even a rife stash stop built in. anyone would think it was made for me and at $350 it was a steal

CTEK has been bypassed with a narva 140amp VSR. the CTEK doesnt seem to charge that well when its 40deg in winter it was fine driving to work and back each day kept my fridge running but as soon as it warmed up a bit battery was flat after 4days. some say VSR or solinoids lower the life of a battery but what is the point of having a babttery for 10years if its not doing its job of keeping my jacks cold.

i could never see how charging at the same voltage as the alternator but at only 10amp max could be better then a VSR or solinoid getting full amps from my alternator(130amp max) but i still went and bought it thinking they knew something that i didnt . oh well looks like a have a expensive solar regulator.

Re: kempy's hilux - failed snatch

Postby anthony kemp on Sun, 08 Feb 2015 5:05 +0000

end result of a failed snatch point. mate got bogged(drives a ranger) in a bit of mud so went to give him a snatch and it let go. wasnt even a hard snatch. had a damper on the line so that stopped the D-shackle coming back but nothing could of stopped the hook. it was a rated aftermarket snatch point but it looked as though cheap bolts were used for mounting and they pulled out the chassis :o ... anyway just a reminder dont stand anywhere near a car being snatched even if dampers are being used.

Wowee! Good thing everyone was clear! Lucky it didn't hit that lower corner, I've had to fix a few of them and they suck!
