Figured I should finally start doing one of these, since I'm continually looking through everyone else's and drooling

Leased a stock-as-a-rock 08 dualcab D4D with 23000 on it from Victoria after starting work in Gove. After a month and a half of f$@#&% around with the leasing company, Rio Tinto's HR and the dealer, I eventually got it sorted out and the ute was on a truck bound for Darwin. After driving the "track" out of town to Darwin with the in-laws, picked her up and put her through her paces over 600ks worth of dust and corrogations back to Gove.

Since then, she's been fitted with an ARB deluxe winch bar (done on a deal with the local Toyota after claiming damage done to the ute whilst on the truck, so I only paid half - insurance picked up the rest for a new "bumper" ), Lightforce 240 XGTs, REKON front struts and swaybar relocators, Dobinsons 2" 0-300kg leaves and Amadaextreme remote reservoir shockies from Superior Engineering.

how did you go for dust in the canopy of the way back

First time on the way back it was about an inch deep in the tray so I bought a vent from ARB for $40 which surprisingly works really really well.

After helping the missus old man install his spotties and seeing the woeful switch that came with them (shame IPF/ARB, shame!) I decided I needed something better for mine. After a bit of googling, I came across customrockers.com.au, which is chock full of awesomeness. Picked up this switch: http://www.customrockers.com.au/epages/ ... BLUE%29%22.

It was simple to install the "switching side" of it, simply cut off the old switch from my XGT's and attached the new one. The real drama started once I tried to get the 2 lights in the switch to work. After a few e-mails back and forward to Ian from custom rockers, who I might add is extremely helpful, I got it sorted, and for anyone who is interested in doing the same with one of his switches:

Pin 2 goes to hibeam negative (black/red stripe or brown on the lightforce wiring harness)
#3 goes to the relay pin #85 or 86
#6 is dash lights positive (picked up from power heat button)
#7 is dash light negative (power heat again)
#8 is 12v positive.



At first I wasn't sure about the 240 XGTs because of the sheer size of them, but I think they've grown on me.



I was going to pick up the 12v pos from the cigarette lighter, but I hate splicing into the vehicle's wiring if I can avoid it, so instead I ran a 1.5mm2 wire through the firewall and to my aux fuse box (more later) and a relay so I could have it as an ignition switched wire.

I spliced into the positive feed for the windscreen washer bottle pump and ran it up to pin #85 of my relay, ran #86 to earth, #30 to my Aux fuse box and #87 connected to my new wire under the dash. While I was at it, I ran another 12v switched off it up under the centre console in preparation for my new in-cab winch controls, and spliced into the illuminated cigarette lighter dash light circuit and ran wires as well.

I also spend monday tidying up my wiring under the bonnet from the bullbar, spotlights, canopy light etc. I purchased a 12 fuse "Blue Sea" style marine fuse box from ebay, some 4 gauge wire eye terminals, some 4 gauge wire from Supercrap Auto, and a 100A circuit breaker from Jaycar. In hindsight, I'll most likely never use all 12 spots in the box, but for an extra $10 over the 6 fuse one, it seemed like a good idea. One thing that I didn't think through that well was the placement of the box, as I attached it and the circuit breaker to the top of the main fuse box, meaning I have to disconnect everything to take the lid off it Live and learn I guess!





I didn't realise how crooked my relays were..... Doesn't matter I guess!

Also, thanks to Amitch888 I also installed the legendary Newhilux diff breathers in preparation for the coming wet season.

Managed to get a quick shot of how I've mounted my remote reservoir rear shocks, I've just tek screwed them to the tub "cross braces" via the supplied brackets and secured with hose clamps. I figured this had to be better than attaching them to the shockbody itself as the braided hose between the two was bound to get caught on something and cause all sorts of shit to fly!

I've just realised I forgot to mention the Airtec snorkel and 31x10.5x15 Mickey Thompson MTZs too, so I will, because I can

I'm also sick to death of the pissy little reversing light that these things come with, especially with a darker tint and a canopy on the back. I was thinking about putting 2 LED lights either side of the number plate, and having it wired to come on when in reverse with an override switch. Anybody know of something that would do the job?



There should be heaps of room, only problem might be mounting them, as its only thin steel back there, maybe just a flat bracket and some pop rivets I guess...

Spent a while in the shed this arvo wiring up a light for the glovebox, I think it turned out quite well...



I used a 6LED "bulb" from ebay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/160676359615 ... 1439.l2649), and wired in a push button momentary switch so that when the glove box is shut, the light is off, and when you open it, she comes on. At first I thought the bottom hole was going to make the glove box protrude too much, so I drilled the top one, only to find out the switch wouldn't work there. Somewhere between the two would be the sweet spot I reckon.



I may still drill out where the switch contacts the glovebox edge a bit, as it doesn't sit perfectly flush now, but we'll see how it goes. If I was to do it again, I'd use one of these: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1pc-42mm-211 ... 2c616f45c7 with something like this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Vehicle-Roof ... 4cfbd054b6 simply because I'm not sure how long the double sided tape on my light will last.

No not yet mate, but I've just installed a reversing camera and its next to useless at night, I'm leaning towards something like the Rigid Industries sr-m flush mounted lights, but spending money for the lux is in short supply right now, will see how I go.
