Engine fan

Postby rockman on Thu, 22 Oct 2009 3:46 +0000

Has / does anyine bother to check the engine fan at all .
My aircon guy /mechanic had a look at both our hilux's and both where all but empty of oil .
Quite an easy job to get to , split , oil and through back together again .

Reason for going to him in the first place was out auto seemed to leak just a whisper of oil when we towed the camper / float .Aircon dude looks at the fan , just free spinning , he even had the nads to grab it at 1500rpm  .

Anyway , maybe time to have a look at you fans , apprently they run out of oil at around 60k .

Cheers

i have noticed that in the past 3000 - 4000 kms my engine fan has started to become very noisy. it is intermittent but mostly noisy when the engine is cold. im sure its not right (it sounds like a patrol or something!).
could this be the oil ???
my lux has done about 145k.

Thats normal. Its the oil in the fan, it will take a few mins for it to loosen up and spin freely and go quiet then when it heats up it will lock up and be noisy again.
Im not stuck..... Im thinking
