Tas, if it makes you feel more comfortable, use 10w40 or 5w40 in winter then on the summer oil change use 15w40, all are within the temperature range for Tasmanian climate. Check your owners manual for temp range and check the minimum for each grade. 10w40 is good for -17c so unless you are going to Antarctica this should be fine but 15w40 goes to -7c.
Penrite 15w50 semi synthetic oil is what I use, -20 to +40c range, good for summer and winter in Tasmania.
And as stated, always run for a few minutes before driving off.
