Leaf springs wearing on eachother

Leaf springs wearing on eachother

Postby white.lux on Mon, 17 Oct 2016 4:49 +0000

hello guys,
Just after some advise, I have a 2014 hilux dual cab with an alloy tray and lightweight alloy canopy that is usually empty.
around 20,000km ago I fitted a 2 inch lift with 300kg constant leaf springs in the, about a month ago i went to get an extra leaf put in because i am looking at getting a caravan and the mechanic ( same guy who installed the lift) rang me to say that the leaf springs have a groove worn in them and should be replaced. He said that the groove is from being overloaded, but will try get them replaced under warranty ( 2 years remaining and havnt even got close to km covered by warranty) but for the last month keeps giving me the run around saying that he hasnt heard back from the supplier yet.
When he first said that they were wearing due to overloading i told him that the weight I carry constant is minimal and he agreed, so now my question is, if the springs were overloaded would it cause them to wear a groove in the leaves or would they just sag? also does anyone think that they should be replaced under warranty?

Thanks
Anthony

I've seen plenty of worn leafs, if the the primary pack is constantly in contact with the bottom load leafs then they will wear grooves in them.

How long would it take them to wear a groove in the spring normally, and how excessive was the weight

Weight is usually excessive but it all depends on the conditions.
