Hey premier
ARB state to have an estimated lift of 30mm in the front.
At 745mm you do have th 30mm lift.

If mine has sitting at 745 i would be happy but thats coz mine is sitting at 720mm

I just dont understand my local ARB shop
They dont want to put the 884's in coz they say i dont have enough weight in there.
I do have a ARB Bar, Lights, Dual Bat & small compressor.
But they say coz i dont have a winch then the 883's are the way to go.

Premier mayeb you should try for the 885's
they should give you abit more lift

David if I was you I would push the point that you want the 884's cause the lift isn't what you expected....whatever happened to customer satisfaction!!

sitting at 765....a 20mm lift, now I'm happy

Premier and I are doing the same thing fitting King Springs to the OME strut.
I made some enquires into the springs available from King and they do supply an more heavier duty spring than the KTFR-101HD.
The spring is the KTFR- 101HDD. It has a free length of 390mm and uses Dia. 18mm wire. It also is the new generation X5K wire (high stress). I ordered both from Repco and picked them up today with the assurance that I could return a set without any problem.

I will be fitting both the Kings to the truck on Wednesday for a comparison. Obviously the HHD will possible raise the suspension up around the 790 - 800 range. It would be good to just fit and look anyway and to gather some tech stats. But I do find the HDD spring interesting as you could use a set of Billies and use the lower circlip positions to achieve a 50mm lift without preloading the spring as much.
Will keep everyone posted on the stats of the lift and of course plenty of photos.

Let me just clear some facts about OME & Kings Springs
Pls correct me if im wrong

Im thinking if i install it onto my vehicle it might sit to high as i dont have the winch up front. So it might sit something like 775-780. I think thats to high for my liking.

Premier is that hat you got installed KTFR-101-HD

Does anyone know what the KTFR-101 are?
Anyone fitted these

Has anyone installed the ARB 884's with the simular weight i have eg (Bar, Dual Bat, Lights, but no winch up front)
So I can get an idea of how high it will be.

All that info on springs is great but the shockie also has an effect on the height of the front. People with the same spring and accessories could have different heights, eg on a set of modified billies you can get 5 different heights. I am not sure if OME shocks with standard toyota springs would lift the car but if the base plate is in a different position to the standard shockie it will have an effect.

When fitting the front suspension does it matter how the top part of the suspension is sitting.
I mean does it matter if the end part of the coil on the top is facing towards the outside or inside of the vehicle.
The reason I ask is that I have the left top suspension coil end facing the outside of the vehicle & the rubber that is being squished up isnt sitting flat straight.
While the right one must have the end of the coil sitting towards the inside of the vehicle making the rubber sit flat.

Is there a correct or incorrect way of putting them in.

Also with the struts is there a correct & incorrect way.
I mean one of my struts is fitted with the code description facing out while the other is facing in

I run King KTFR-101 on my Hilux which has a ARB bar but no winch nor second battery.

I was advised not to install the KTFR-101HD as it would lift it about 3 inches without the winch and second battery.

I was not aware of the KTFR-101HHD until Mark aka Skog told me about it.

The big day is tomorrow Iain.
Spent a few hours tonight turning up some mandrels on the lathe and fabricating some special jigs to hold the strut in the press.
I realise that the HHD will skyjack the strut above possibly 800mm but. It would be good to get a result and they probably be a good spring to use in the Billies on the lowest circlip position.
I was also going to put a circlip groove on the OME strut 15mm below the welded shoulder to try the HDD at the lower height. But measured the OD of the strut and worked out that the wall section would become too thin and weaken the strut.
I have decided to put in a set of Billies at a later date and try the HD's and the HHD's just to see and get some comparisons. Obviously I can lower the circlip possition on the Billies to use the longer spring.
Will post up the finding tomorrow night.

David PM'ed me asking for my front end measurements.

My coils are King KTFR-101 with Billies at the highest circlip setting. I run 15" wheels.

Front right (driver side) - approx. 748mm
Front left - 740mm


I can't seem to remember how much it was when it was newly installed. I think I did post it somewhere here but I am just plain tired to do a search as I've got to wake up early for a 5 hours drive about 300kms away.

OK well here is the results from the surgery.
The eyebow heights were with the 884 springs with OME struts and 10mm worth of packers in.
LHS. 730
RHS. 735
The maximum downward travel of the strut is.
LHS. 800
RHS. 815
Here are the measurements with the Kings KTFR- 101HD. in OME Struts with no packers.
Installed.
LHS. 745
RHS. 750
I didnt put the HHDs in, as the press I was using had a chronic oil leak so I had to use spring compressors......... :o :o :o terrifying
It is absolutely amazing how these springs make the front end feel so much better. It is harder and you do feel the road a little more but it doesnt feel like a wet bag of s@#t anymore.. It doesnt wallow and feel like a boat.
The OME 884 spring had a free length of 380mm, after it came out of the strut so it sagged 10mm in total. Which is whay the 10mm packers did not work.
Will try the HHD's when I get a set of billies and use the lower circlip position and do a comparo between the HD's and the HHD's then.

The darkside was a pretty frustrating and unpleasant place. Alot of frustration, anger and fear.
Which are all paths to the darkside!!!!! As Yoda would say.
It was nearly the brownside a few times as well when I was using those spring compressers. :lol: :lol:
Will see how they fair over the next couple of weeks. I am really happy with them. Coffs and Stockton should give'em a bit of a workout.

Nice pictures & write up.

The 101HD's look good but give them a week or so to settle in and re-measure again. I think they go down a little (3mm or so) after settling in.

If you change the front struts to Billies, you could get another 10mm lift if I am not mistaken.

I actually wish my front end was a little higher. I can't go any higher unless i change the coils to the 101HD's as my Billies are at the highest position.

G'day all,

I just had my OME 2" lift checked today. After about a month and about 2,500kms here are the results (I'll double check the figures when i get the warrenty papers that i forgot :? ):

Before Lift: After lift: Change:
front left = 707 front left = 780 +73mm
front right = 715 front right = 788 +73mm
Rear left = 795 Rear left = 851 +56mm
Rear right = 805 Rear right = 860 +55mm

I am very happy with the results. I have done a bit of bouncing around off road to help settle it all in. For additional info i have the toyota breaker bar and a warn 9,000lb winch as the only add on's to my front end. I'll post 5,000km height figures when i get there if anyone likes

I had the HD 884 prado springs fitted in the front with a 5mm packer. The rear was purchased with the additional 500kg leaf to compensate for future mods. However, they are not yet fitted untill i need them. I am more than happy with the ride and feel that i now get. The only point i would mention to others that ARB didn't tell me was that with the raise in height the brake bias is essentially getting a no load pressure through it. Have a read through of posts on brake bias and you'll get all the info you need. I adjusted my bias to full range on the diff end, but now found out that you can also adjust the actual bias valve up and down on the chasis. There was a caution that small movent can make big changes. I haven't yet tried this as i only just read it. I will be aiming to have my ajustment at a neutral position on the treads, which should allow me to get the pressure set by toyota at next service.

Hope that helps others with their choices.
