Tire Help = 205/R16

Need something to get you rolling?

Tire Help = 205/R16

Postby willbur on Thu, 25 Oct 2012 1:54 +0000

Hi - Just picked up the new toyota and it needs new tires. Size states 205/R16 (as does door sticker). I'm from the US, so a bit out of pocket as options are scarce in that size (research says 205/80/16). Truck is stock -- can anyone tell from the what size tire might fit? Possibly 225-75-R16? Or? (Don't know how to upload pic -- but tires look like steel pizza pie?)

Thanks so much!

Hey willbur, so many threads on rims and tires . . . . the standard SR tires are pretty awful hey.

start here I suppose - viewtopic.php?f=27&t=5462

I have gone to SR5 rims - there were some available from a forum member. Others have gone up to 245 on the standard rims I think, but there will be some tire joints that don't want to put them on. See what you can find out from the local places. Lots and lots of options, depending on just how fine you want to tread the line of legality. :D

215/85/16 are a perfect fit on standard 6'' steel rims

225/75/R16 would be the most common replacement tire for the standard 6" rim. Also have a look at 235/85/R16 if you don't want to fork out for new rims. This is close to a 32".

Hi and welcome wilbur, I have 245/70/16 Coopers on mine (standard rims) and they are a teeny bit too wide/large; the tyre is crowned just a little, the speedo is now pessimistic and it has affected off-line pull (although not much)

The stock 205 are not too terrible except appearance. good fuel economy, still can be air down to 19 psi.
