I'm not a mechanic but i'll tell you about two of the cars from our work fleet it might explain the difference between some of the clean and dirty systems. The injectors go through the head and are sealed at the bottom by what looked like a copper washer and at the top by an o-ring. the mechanic at work showed me one of the vehicles where the copper washer had blown out which on the intake stroke sucked a little bit of oil down from the head blowing it out the exhaust which a little of returns back through the EGR. Like i said i'm not a mechanic but from what i remember this is how they explained it to me.

Well I finally got around to pulling mine apart today.. from start to finish took me exactly 2:15hrs including test drive afterwards..

mine is the Apr 06 build SR5 3.0 , so has the earlier ECU, and has currently got just under 95,000 on the dial.

As you can see, mine is no where near as bad as the ones pictured previously.. but i took the time to clean it all anyway..

then after cleaning.. I just used some throttle body / carbi cleaner and it came up a treat.

Put it all back together, reset the ECU and took it for a test drive, all seems fine, no error codes etc, so i'll see how it goes..

Cheers

U could use Subaru upper engine cleaner.
I use that on subi"s as it is a requirement of their service to clean carbon from intake area etc.
Less than $ 20 from subi dealers, easy to use, instructions on the can!
I might use it as a preventative maintenance on mine!

Anyone know the prices of the wynns or other similar products?
New DENSO Injectors are the go! New genuine parts.

Check your injectors about every 10,000k.
WARNING check oil pickup screen is clear
no chips no tune ups - why increase risk of piston cracking?

Hey guys I need your help, I did this today and it was bloody dirty, ill post a pic up soon.

I put everything back together in reverse order and it will start and drive but I think it is "limp mode", as it will not rev much at all and the engine light is on.

I have re checked all the vacuum lines and still can't work it out. Can you see anything wrong from this picture?

Cheers,

Did everything fit back together cleanly ? or did you have to force anything ?

Have you disconnected your battery for a long period of time ?

Hi Steve,

Everything went back together really well, I took heaps of time so that I didn't have any probs?!

I took the battery out this morning at 10am and put it back in at about 4pm when I had finished, would this have done something?

well all that would have done is reset your ECU.. which is what you need to do anyway because the computer needs to learn that your ECU is now clean.. but it wont cause limp mode..

seems to me that something is wrong with the way you put it back together.. what i'd be doing is pulling it all apart again and triple checking everything as you disconnect and then reassemble..

Steve, I pulled it apart again this morning and found my problem, I had left one of the electrical plugs on the drivers side (under intercooler) off

I can't believe the difference it has made, it pulls harder in every gear now!

Cheers guys!
