I replaced my injectors and didn't replace the lines, no problems.

Ah sweet mate, any tips on removing the injector pipes and cleaning the lower manifold?

Already did the clean down to the egr elbow but didnt get any further as i didnt have confidence in getting the pipes off without wrecking it !

I did not remove the injector pipes to replace the injectors just undid the injector end and propped them out of the way slightly. I've also cleaned the intake down to the EGR and would like to do the manifold too.
The lower end of the pipes looked difficult to get a spanner on the nut, probably need a 3/8 drive crowfoot spanner...either open-ender or a flare-nut type.
I'll get around to it one day.
Regards Chris.

To all you guys that have cleaned the system what were the symptoms if any that the system was blocked ?
I ask because lately my lux has started to idle poorly and the smell from the exhaust really stinks in a sooty kind of way, have also noticed that on a cold start smoke blows from exhast for a few seconds.
Are these signs indicative of how your lux was operating and if so did they cease after cleaning ?
thanks for your input.

The smoke at start up is of concern IMO.
Have you had the injector seats changed from copper to alluminium?
If a seat or seats are gone, you could be in for a lot of trouble if it isn't sorted out soon.

was hoping it was just egr needing cleaning turns out that 2 injectors out of spec so will replace them all, fuel pump appears to be ok. given the car is coming up to 7 years old i guess i'm lucky i got this far with it given known issues with the early injectors.

100,000; it doesn't do a whole lot of k's during a regular week , most of the k's are run up 2 or 3 times a year on our trips.

I had 2 injectors out of spec right on 3 years old and 99,999 klms , luckily had them all replaced under warranty

looks like 100k is the lucky number..........warranty, what's that ? looks like am up for about 3.5k.
i talked to a number of diesel places as i'll be buggered if i'll get another crd but they all said that the issue was with the early 150 series toyota injectors and most other crd's don't have the same issues.
at the moment there's not really anything out there ute wise that's worth me spending the money on.

Hi all,

Just completed removing the EGR and Inlet Manifold. The condition of EGR plumbing and inlet manifold were similar to previous pictures showing extensive sludge deposits.
Careful as I was, I have a bracket that for the life of me I cannot figure out where it goes. Went to usual mechanic ... he didn't know. Then went out to local Toyota dealer ... guys in servicing couldn't help either. They took off the engine cowling and couldn't identify where it went. I was out in the waiting room so I cannot testify if they did a proper inspection, or just had a quick glance.
Can anyone shed any light of where this bracket goes.

Thanks in anticipation
Bruce

Just putting a word out there to see if anyone has had the same problem I am currently encountering...

This morning, after reading this post last night decided to have a look inside my lux. It's a 07 with 120,000. So I expected to find a bit of a build up, as expected it was quite built up! Cleaned it out, just down to the manifold, re-assembled it, goes like a rocket now!!

HOWEVER!

30km into my daily driving, check engine light comes on.

After dropping into the local Toyota dealer, with just the hand held diagnosis tool, a past fault code was cleared an light has gone off. However talking to the mechanic, he said with some of the sensors, using a carbon based cleaner (as I used fuel and carby cleaner) can damage the carbon brushes in a few of the sensors.

I've never had this problem, I have worked as a diesel mechanic for about 7 years previous to my current job....

Has anyone undertaking this 'clean' had a issue with cleaners damaging any of the sensors, as my check engine light is back on.

Heading back to toyota tomorrow, so I will see how I go.

Hi Guys,

Have been trying to get some Wynn's EGR cleaner & have been told that they are no longer making it.

Does anyone know if this is true?

mmm.....I found a auto place that has this in stock....$48 per can! Ouch :o

Can buy it on line for $9 per can + post from OS, so I might just stock up & get 4 cans.

I had a crack at the EGR valve yesterday. There was a fair bit of crud in there but not as much as some
vehicle has done 95,000kms
Wasnt too hard, did it fairly s l o w l y and had no dramas, took 3 hrs and only 4 bandaids.

Man was it sticky sheite! i wish i had some small wire brushes but made do with rags, a toothbrush and some carby cleaner.

Didnt do intake manifold at this stage but will definetely need doing as was similar to elbow. Will be bloody difficult with the second battery and pre-filter taking up all the room.

How long did it take others to do the intake manifold?
