Yeah mate and the FJ wheel looks very good – it will fit but I don’t think your switches will work!

I have been told there is a part number change on the ECU which coincides with the upgraded Hilux’s with Steering Wheel controls. I suspect that means wiring goes back through the ECU.

Also when you search this Forum for simular items most people have found that the wiring traces back to the ECU.

Your cheapest option would be to go to a wrecker and purchase a Prado Steering wheel with Stereo controls – get one that the airbag has already been set off as this will be very cheap for you just to try!

If you just want to upgrade to a Leather wheel or better looking wheel Matty from Monster Rides might have some of these left - viewtopic.php?f=46&t=13326

You will also find there are different squibs for the different controls. ( clock spring)

I found an 2010 SR5 with a deployed airbag can anyone tell me if you can swap parts between it and an 08 SR ?

Steering wheel will fit but the squib will have to be Changed if you want the buttons to be hooked up. Also the body wire harness behind the dash is also different between the workmate , sr and sr5 models. So you may be in for a challenge.

Did you end up going through with this? I'm wanting to put a 2013 wheel with controls on my 2008 ute. And change the clock spring to suit if possible? I want to use the controls with an aftermarket stereo

The costs would be huge due to the air bag.
Have you costed it?

Brand new steering wheel, audio controls, cruise control, airbag, airbag sensor $495 + postage.
Don't know how you will go for wiring etc but it's a pretty good start.

I didn't cost the airbag up, the wheel is going to be around 130 from a wreckers. I was hoping the airbags would be the same part no. I've got easy access to the tools to remove it. I was also thinking of a 150 series prado steering wheel purely for the quality feel aspect.

Air bags are close to 3000 bucks

And are not allowed to be sold from wrecking yards by law

I have a 2005 SR5 Hilux and have recently fitted a 2012 Hilux SR5 steering wheel with the radio control buttons, the info display button and the blue tooth button, after a lot of research and having a 2010 hilux to check where the wiring goes i have managed to wire it all up and it all works correctly. It wasnt that hard the only problems were trying to get the plug terminals which i managed to get from a wreckers. Bacically you need the 20 pin plug that goes into the head unit the black wire and pin which goes into number 8 of the Info display plug and 4 terminals and wire out of the black steering wheel plug that plugs into the airbag clock spring. You also need to check if you have the later clock spring if not it is just a like for like swap so not hard. I even managed to get the steering wheel illumination to work. And was supprised that the blue tooth buttons work my Toyota sat nav unit as well.
It sounds complicated but it really is easy the hardest thing is getting all the connections required from the wreckers.
Including the Clock spring and steering wheel the whole job cost me approx $160 Bucks. (not including my time) but worth every cent.

Nice , I noticed that the 2014 SR's have sterring wheel controls standard now as well

I have a 2006 Hilux SR and wanted the steering wheel controls for my 2012 sat nav. I got a full harness from a 2011 plus the steering wheel and ran all the additional cables to the various locations. I couldn't wire up a connector to the sat nav unit as there is no harness is my ute to connect into. As I had the full harness thought I took out the cables from the plugs to keep the factory colours and set out from the clock spring so it looks original. I then had to tape up the connectors at the stereo and while it works fine, the one problem is the up button goes down and the down goes up. volume, mode works and with the black wire run from the clock spring up to the clock, the buttons on the right side side of the steering work also. Only shame is the clock w/ multi display as mine is an SR, i can only get the temperature and direction to work... need to get an SR5 cluster...

Hi I'm looking at upgrading my 07 steering wheel to a 2010 steering wheel with audio controls I'm wondering if anyone has done this to an 07 and is it very hard. Is it a straight swapor Is there any videos floating around or step by step how to do it. Any help would be appreciated. I've saved the last message just to have a read over after work but I don't wanna buy the gear then struggle to do it. Thank you in advanced.

Have you read the thread you posted in?.....Try PMing Mgc0407, as he went from older than you to newer than what you want, so yes it can be done. But just remember his post was from 2013, he was last on here in October 2015.
