It's called a MAP filter.
90917-11036. Filter, gas No.1.

Thanks Roo. Now I know why the service manager at Toyota looked at me strangely when I was calling it the MAF filter.

Hey guys I'm going to get onto this sometime this week.
Along with the MAF sensor.

I think.... I'm pretty sure i Teed my boost gauge off a tube somewhere around this area.
If that is the case, could this be the reason my boost gauge sometimes spikes to 17 pounds?

I have been a bit concerned about this boost spike which happens once a blue moon..

Don't break your Map sensor filter, I was told by Toyota parts today they are currently ex-Japan. None in WA, maybe in Oz?

You can't buy parts from Toyodiy, prices are also not really accurate, only good for partnumbers lookup. You'll have better luck at Amayama for parts.

Did the MAF sensor and the map sensor filter today, was a bit of black oil in the filter, maybe 10 or so drops so I guess ill see how it goes.
I bought CRC MAF cleaner, is there any tricks with it? I just sprayed it a bunch of times.

I haven't cleaned out the sensor, but I replaced the filter recently and that made a significant difference in power. Time to clean the sensor out

Wouldn't touch the sensor if I were you, very sensitive parts inside. Not even necessary, the filter's the one that needs cleaning.

Just to answer the question, here and now.
I use CRC MAF sensor cleaner and use the extension provided.
Just spray into the hotwires a bit at a time. It's clean when the diodes are a light cream brown colour.
Most of the time, it's the bottom hot wire that is dirty.
Remember, there is two hot wires.

I have cleaned these sensors and filter but am concerned as to what the rest of the dust is doing to the motor? Dust shouldn't be getting in there? Just a question? Poor design?

Dust will always get is unless you have a oil bath type filter. It is the large partials of dust you want to stop. This is what the filter does. Stops the large particles and keeps the air as clean as possible. If your in a heavy dusty location. Daily cleaning may be required.

Just did this and MAF.
Plenty of oil out of the filter and the MAF wires were black, went for a scoot and WOW.

Thanks for this and I thought my mechanic who has a really good reputation was on top of it all.

That's why I love this site:)
