Hi All
Removed my HPD catch can this morning and found water and oil sludge in it. Install the catch can from new and checked it on 8000 km open the catch can with only a little bit of oil in it. Tow my 2.6 ton boat for 3000 km came back from holiday and check the catch can again and found it half full of oil. Catch can is definitely doing its job. After another 3000 km I open the catch can this morning and found a lot of water in it. Any idea where the water is coming from? Can it be condensation? Temperatures in Perth between 2 to 20 degrees daily. Loving my car with 14000 trouble free kilometers.

As far as I have been told a bit of water is normal for the first part of any trip as the engine heats up. This is one of the primary reasons that short trips are really bad for your engine. Engines need to get up to operating temperature to burn off this water. Did you do a short trip in the morning, like to the servo and then have a look?

No water present during summer months will checked it next weekend again. Doing 30% city and 70% driving daily.

Mine looks similar in winter albeit less sludgy. I put mine down to condensation.
