Unless you are travelling in a group/convoy there is little value in a UHF on the main highways now. So much rubbish talk that is impossible to sit through.

Remote areas you may get a decent conversation and is an important safety device.

Thanks - I figured that might be the case.

Gin, if your 27meg experience was anything like mine I'd say don't waste your $$s but maybe buy a handheld like I did preferably 5watt, I have one and never use it after listening to the loud uncouth language used most of the time. As to 27meg I was an early user and graduated to ssb and then 'secret channels until the whole band was full of bogans. Tried using 'boots and sliders and all the tricks I was able to talk skip all around the world to US, Italy UK Norway etc all using 12 watts until the bogans found those tricks so then in 1990 moved to the net long before www was developed and the 27meg experience was replicated

Jakezada. You don't have to undo the bolts. Pull from the front lip of the console storage (with the lid up). The lid and console storage stay in place. Everything forward of there just lifts up. If auto put into N. Once lifted disconnect the two cable looms before completely removing towards rear of vehicle

There is no room under the manual console to fit the radio.
The gear box linkages take up most of the room.

Hi All,

Has anyone fitted the ICOM IC450 (the one with the controls on the hand piece)?
Thoughts/easy/worth it/mounting location etc

And has anyone put it on a minecorp bracket?
Alternatively, can people post a few photos of the actual bracket and hand piece? It certainly seems like the way to go!

Cheers

I got one of these in my gen 7 and I think its great enough room to fit a TX4500 with mic and cord hangers and a place to store your sunnies and what not

I have sent them an enquiry email btu waiting to hear back.

I have one in mine. Was about $60 posted I think. I just have them a call and payed over the phone. Mine doesn't have the logo on it. Nice and simple to fit and looks great.

Hi mate,
Would you be able to post up a picture of your bracket?
Mine also has no logo and seems to site straighter than what id shown on their website. Seems odd that the backseat gets a better view of the hand piece than the driver?!

BReidy94 that's exactly the setup I've got mate (IC450 and minecorp bracket) - finished installing on the weekend. I ended up mounting the UHF unit under the trans tunnel trim ahead of the gearstick...tight, but fits good. Keep in mind that the minecorp bracket is setup for GME/Uniden mic hangers which have a different hole config to the icom ones. I ended up getting a gme hanger off fleabay to make it work. Routed the handset cable thu the start button blanking plate (SR). Bit of mucking round but all looks pretty tidy. I'll grab some pics next time I think of it.

I've got my uniden speakermic all in one unit mounted just left of my left knee. The "brain" unit is up behind the drivers kick panel. Only visible panel damage is for the 2 screwholes for the mic holder.

Taller lads with longer legs might not like it there as would bang into knee a bit, but works for me (shortass)

Antenna wise have just fitted a new UNiden AT970BK Twin (a 3dbi and a 6.6dbi interchangeable)

UHF Install

Hi Folks,

Have looked around but could't find what i am after so here goes.

Am installing a UHF in my 2016 SR5. I have a good idea that I may pick power up from the back of one of my lighter sockets and I should be able to ground the black wire so I think that will be OK but I am wanting to know where everyone has penetrated the firewall to get an antenna cable out. Looks like a grommet on the passenger side is the go but can anyone share any of their experiences here please? Thanks Brian.

Both footwells have grommets. I've run through both sides in the past.

Go direct for power, don't touch ciggy lighter / ignition fed power, you want your UHF on all the time (when desired).

Drivers side i found easier as my passengers side is chock a block and mostly under auxillary battery.

My UHF is pretty much permanently on when on trips / holidays. Could go to an Auxillary battery I Guess.

Hey Fellas

So i mounted mine on the driver side to the left of the pedals with velcro to the carpet. It tucked away nicely. I didn't wanna put in on the panel under the steering wheel because there is an airbag there and for piece of mind i want to keep that free.
And the Mic holder is on woth double sided tape, no chance I'm drilling holed in the dash.
I have pics if someone explains to me how to post them haha
