2016 hilux UHF

Postby sq1nty on Mon, 18 Jan 2016 7:43 +0000

Got my GME UHF today where all the controls are on the hand piece. Just looking at where to mount it on the new hilux, have no idea where to put it as the touch screen takes up so much space and everywhere else is taken up by buttons. Where do people recommend placing the hand piece?

I will be watching this thread as I will be doing the same thing with my new GME and 2016 Hilux in April.
Speaking to a guy from Off Road Central the other day about bullbars etc and I asked about where to mount the uhf. He said some people mount the head unit under the dash or in the glovebox.
Interesting...

I have the GME TX3350. I have temporarily mounted the actual unit on the passenger side of the centre console, behind the carpet in the clear space under the console. I currently have just tied it in place with a couple of cable ties to a 12mm vertical bright steel pipe support, but will bracket it here when I get time. I have found that the mic keeps falling over to the passenger side when I drop it, so I am thinking of using the extension mic cable and just move it over to the drivers side.

I have a GME one without the buttons on the hand piece, i mounted the box flat, facing up in front of the drivers left knee.

The receiver, i used double sided tape and it sits to the right of the touch screen on the raised part. Works out well because it keeps the cord neat and out of the way.

Cheers

There plenty of room at the back of the center console...but you may need some flexible shoulders to get to it. Wasted space there as it's got no rear air vents or additional cup holders.

Mine just sits in the forward recess of the center console at the moment.

I use stick on Velcro to hide the unit behind the dash above the pedals, I took the mounting knob off the back of the mic and use stick on Velcro for that too so no screw holes on the dash or anywhere for that matter. Just have to clean the plastic of the dash with metho first. Not the current model though.

about a month ago I installed my GME TX3550S under the passenger foot well in my 2014 SR5, used an inch by inch "L" bracket mounted flush with an existing screw hole up under the footwell and the extension cord running out next to the USB slot. looks nice and neat and with one speaker in the main box facing down towards the passenger floor and the speaker in the hand unit makes it very loud and clear to hear what's being said over comms. :)

I mounted my gme Tx 3550s directly behind the bonnet opener puller. There are two 6mm raised tapped holes there doing nothing (I have an sr so these may be used on the sr5). The bracket that comes with the radio fits perfectly in there using the two centre holes. No need for mods. I just spaced the bracket out a little by using stainless washers. Works really well. I'm a little hesitant drill into the dash as well so for now so my mic is in the cup holder. Going to look at getting heavy duty 3m double sided tape to see if that works.

This is the next thing on my list. Who's found a good spot yet?

I'm leaning heavily toward the GME with the controls on the mouthpiece, where did you guys end up putting the main unit?

mount the unit under the dash with an extended mic cable so the mic comes up out of your glovebox maybe? Will obviously require mic with dials on it.

Mine's mounted under the console. There's plenty of room under there. Power was obtained from one of the accessory outlets. This is a GME TX3350 which has a speaker in the handset. To get the console cover off, you simply unscrew the gear knob, unzip the handbrake boot and pull up from the console lid.

Lift the console lid and pull up from above the 240v outlet.

What is the number on the back of your mic?
Most of that GME remote stuff is interchangeable, the remote mics will replace the remote heads.
I am hoping I can plug in one of those mics and avoid fitting a remote speaker.
