That’s very interesting? I’m not familiar with the regulations in Tassie, but here in SA it’s not illegal to fit larger brakes. It is illegal to go down in size, but going up isn’t an issue unless they have recently changed the laws. I retained the 297mm front discs because I didn’t want to go larger than 16” rims, but fitted Nissan 315mm discs to the rear to replace the 295mm drums. It has transformed the vehicles braking ability.
I fitted a pair of those onlineautoparts front calipers (around $150 a pair if I remember) about 3 years ago and still working well. The only issue was that one of them was missing the brass olive that the brake line flair attached to, but was able to remove and fit one from the original caliper. Certainly quicker and easier than rebuilding the old pair.
