D4D auto low range

Postby swhilux on Mon, 27 Jan 2014 8:36 +0000

Hi all
Anyone else had trouble shifting into or out of low range with the diesel auto. I put the transmission into neutral as the owners manual suggests then shift to low, it does go in and out but it does clunk/grind a little bit. Almost like something is still spinning. Any thoughts?

Yeah I get the same problem, its hit and miss but have narrowed it down after driving in 4x4 for some time the auto maybe be heating up and causing the sticking non engagement issue?

Mine doesn't grind or clunk but won't engage at all, my other theory is I've blocked the EGR and with the engine idling higher than normal it could be causing the issue

Mine doesn't make any noises it goes straight in. Haven't had any issues after driving in 4 wheel for a while either. How long since the gearbox and transfer case was serviced?

No sincro ( baulk ring) in the transfer case. so it will make a noise when selecting 4l and back to 4h
been like that for, forever no issues that I have seen from it.
Other makes have a super select like Mitsubishi and there are sincros in the transfer case to allow this to happen.

but I suppose every make is different.
