Samm's SR5 Black Manual DC

Hi All,

I have just taken delivery of my new 'lux! This is my first 4WD, coming from a Magna wagon so a bit of a difference :D I didn't opt for any of the factory extras but it will be getting heavily modded in the future.

It's a Black 2015 SR5 Dual Cab Diesel Manual. It's an awesome drive! I have lots of plans for it, but not many funds to support them at the moment  It will be getting a Viper security system next week and then when I decide which bullbar I want, that will be the next mod. I also plan to build some weatherproof draws for the tub, but need to work on those plans more before I go down that path.

I will be putting in a GVM upgrade once all my major mods are done and I can decide what load I usually carry.

Current Mods:
  • Viper Security System
  • Vicovation Opia2 Dashcam
  • Body Armour 9H Paint Coating
  • ARB Summit bull bar
  • ARB Front Left and Right recovery points
  • ARB Dual Battery Tray w/ Optima D34 Yellow Top
  • Illuminator 9" LED Spot Lights
  • Oil Catch Can
  • Additional fuel filter
  • Awning
  • The Wet Seat Neoprene Seat Covers
  • Upgraded audio system:
    • Focal Polyglass PS165 splits in the front doors
    • Focal Access AC165 coax's in the rear door
    • Audison SR4 4 channel amp
    • Focal PS8 Punch underseat sub
    • Auditon Bit One DSP

Future Mods (in order of install):
  • Icom IC-450 UHF with ZCG ZN3-77-11B Aerial
  • Safari Snorkel
  • Custom alloy roof racks on mounted Rhino Racks track
  • Custom alloy tray
  • Under Vehicle Protection
  • Air Compressor behind rear seats
  • Long Range Fuel tank
  • Tint
  • Rock Sliders
  • Brush bars
  • Window Weather shields
  • Runva Winch
  • 50" LED Lightbar
  • GVM Upgrade
[/list]

You do know the SR5 already has an alarm built in?

Hi Adam, Yes I know that there is a factory alarm fitted however in my area a lot of cars get stolen or broken into. my old car had a window smashed within 6 months of living here. The system I am having fitted will hopefully be a deterent to casual thieves as it has a proximity warning sensor. It also has GPS tracking and will send notifications to me if anyone tampers with the car. It also has the provision to add reed switches to the alarm so that I can protect my toolboxes in the tub.

I love the colour but it is definitely going to be sad when it goes off road and gets scratched -.-

Thanks Rickoo! I haven't been able to drive it much at all because of uni but hopefully will get away this weekend!

Hi Samm a mate of mine put Duraseal on his new 2016 Ranger and swears by it. I have a 2014 SR Hilux and wish I had known about this before going offroad. Might want to check it out.

Thanks, I have been looking at the Body Armour 9H Ceramic Coating. Still deciding whether it is worth it or not at this stage! From the quotes I've gotten so far, it'll be around $800 to get it done.

The factory system also has stolen vehicle tracking, unauthorised entry alert, etc.

But your toolboxes are another story

As far as that link goes, it looks like it is only for a few older model Aurion and Camry? Maybe I'm wrong? But the new system does have a few benefits, Remote Start being probably the most useful on cold mornings! The proximity sensor is great too, keeps prying eyes away!

I need to use this rig for hunting, usually like to stand in the tub but also looking in the future to put a touring setup together on the back. I love the whole tray type setup that lifts off but I don't have anywhere to store it when it's not on the truck so whatever I do will need to be usable everyday. I don't want to lose the ability to stand on the back or to load large sheets of ply etc so was thinking racks for the large sheets and the roof top tent and maybe only do the touring gear on the back 2/3rds of the tray. Alternatively, might do a removable canvas cover setup. What are peoples opinions or has anyone else been in the same position?

The first scratch or dent is always the hardest. After that you wear them like a badge of honour. :)

Yeah I know! I went to the Toolangi State Forest a month after I got it and got a fair few scratches but it didn't really bother me. Everyone else seemed a bit upset by them though!

Spent the weekend installing the ARB Summit bar and 2 x ARB Front Recovery points. And because words are boring, here are some pictures:

Overall it was not too difficult, but I did do 95% of it by myself which was interesting to say the least!

Looks great! Do the arb recovery points bolt up without any drilling or mods?

Thanks! Unfortunately no, depending on if you have the OEM bumper or the ARB bar, there is a bit of cutting and drilling involved. There is hole you need to drill into the chassis rail and another hole you need to widen. You will also need to trim the under bar wing panels as well. i have the instruction here if you are interested in an upload of these sections or I can take a photo of the car.

If you could upload or message the instructions that would be great. I have the toyota steel bar, so curious to see if the points will fit. Thanks
