KUN26r 2005 4wd Light not coming on

We put a new clutch in my 2005 hilux kun26r SR but when im engaging 4wd the little dash light isnt coming on.
In l4 we could feel its torque so felt like it was in gear, but cant tell if the hubs are locking as the light isnt coming on.
is the light driven by a sensor on the gearbox?
any ideas would be great!
