Hi all.
Apologies for new Post but previous posts on this topic are some years old...
My 2015 2.8Lit Hilux with 143,00Kms on the clock has been diagnosed with Timing chain rattle on start-up.. More common problem than some people would believe and perhaps a future class action pending.!!!
Yota have agreed to cover under extended warranty and now have the parts in the country (after an 8 week wait).
I have read quite a few posts on the subject and I am looking at the engine specs provided by CamboT and Hiluxxury.. Thanks Guys
I see that the balancing shafts, mounted below the crank were introduced into Prado in early 2015 then later in the luxxes and I’m assuming that it’s because of this that the engine needs to be removed for proper replacement of all chains, (3 in total).
My Dealer has quoted 1 day to do the job ??…so I’m thinking that either I don’t have the Type 20 variant, or Yota don’t know what the hell they’re doing !!!
How can I tell if I have the type 20 variant ?? and if I do, am I correct in assuming that the repair will be “engine out”
Quote from Toyota GD series diesel engines
“All 1GD for Prado and Hiace are equipped with balance shafts driven by chain from crankshaft. Unlike KD, balancers located in a separate case under block. For the Hilux family, balancers were not used for type'15, but appeared for type'20.”
Thanks in advance
