Damn ....where were you yesterday b4 having them cleaned with carb cleaner:)...I looked around though and couldnt find a maf cleaner.Not even toyota sells them...

Carb cleaner and brake cleaner are the same? Anyhow..I dont know if it a concidense or what but after the maf&map cleaning (nothing major came out by the way) today on my way to work I averaged 9l/100km where I used to do it with 10+.Same driving and all...I guess it works?

You have to undo the two screws, and then take out the MAF sensor. If you are unplugging, make sure you take off the negative terminal on the main battery. Make sure you take off the O ring seal, as MAF cleaner will damage it. Look into the bottom of the sensor and locate the two hot wires.
Spray some MAF sensor cleaner into where the hot wires are. You do this until the hot wires are clean.

Hi Roo. Just out of interest, can leaving the battery active when unplugging cause an arc and damage the MAF sensor? Or is there another reason to isolate the battery?

Cleaned mine today at 310k km. Not sure if it had been done before, wasn't too bad but definitely had some crud come out.

Tried to do this today.

Let me just say that I have never ever felt so emasculated and less of a man than today lol.

I could not remove the map sensor if my life depended on it.

I managed to remove the hose from the bottom, but could not for the life of me remove the sensor from the top hose. It was such a tight fit and would barely move.

I cant be the only one to experience this can I? Any tips for making it easier to do so. I honestly feel if I add any more force trying to remove it, the sensor will break

Just for those having difficulty find MAP sensor cleaner, it is available from REPCO, Supercheap and Austobarn (to name a few) as CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner

Hi Guys.
I have cleaned the EGR,MAF,MAP Intake manifold 2000k ago and injector seats replaced.Ive connected it to techstream and have started it cold and MAF readings are 8.14g.Once upto 85 degrees I have checked it and its reading 17.8 gm.All filters are new oil,air and fuel.It smells like its running rich when up to temp.You reckon the MAF sensor has shit its self.

Just did mine, a slight power change. Seems to be sounding 'healthier'. L/100km are yet to be determined.

For those interested, supercheap will find you the actual replacement MAP sensor filter for $95. They call it a boost sensor filter if anyone needs a replacement.

Tried this myself, with CRC contact cleaner, couldn't source the MAF product, did wonders in terms of power gain and fuel economy, thanks

I noticed my filter was upside down compared to the one shown in the pictures. Do they work both ways?

Cleaned both the other week, both were dirty. I haven't experienced a power gain but fuel economy is a little better. Judging by my Map sensor filter I'm guessing my intake is pretty bad.

My Hilux D4D 2500 turbo 2 Cabin 2012 Diesel, engine light on after 30 minutes from starting, then losing engine power, switching off and on the light goes off and again the same problem occur. Any one can advise me about this problem.

A fault code has been stored in the ECM (engine light symbol).
You will have to take the vehicle to someone who can do a diagnostic on it.

I gave the filter a clean out today. Quite a bit of black stuff came out. And then it finally ran clear. Noticed the boost come on almost instantly with a quick run round the block, very slight increase in power, though it may all be in my head after reading these forums a little too eagerly. Hoping for a result at the pump more than anything!

Bugger. I just cleaned my MAP and that was very disappointing, I was wanting it dirty and a power increase but it was clean after 100,000 odd K's and no reason even to take the truck out to look for a difference in spoolup.

I could blow and suck through the filter easily before squirting carby cleaner into it which came out clear on white tissue paper. Mind you my provent oil catch-can works a treat, I have to drain it regularly, all of the oil apparently is stopped there, as mentioned earlier.

Mmmm, maybe I'll just adjust up the back brakes again, that is always guaranteed to make a noticeable improvement.

Just something small.
See the gap with the hose down the bottom where the arrow is, that's because there is a plastic barb on the map filter.
You are not supposed to push the hose all the way like what has happened in the above hose. There should be a gap like the bottom hose.
When you have a look at the design of the map filter when you go to clean it, you will know what I mean.
By pushing the hose all the way damages the end of the hose.
If this has happened you can just cut off the damaged bit at the end and start again.
