2006 hilux 1KD engine missing when cold

Postby Brian06 on Fri, 13 May 2022 6:59 +0000

When starting the engine from cold, I slowly increase the rpm to around 2,000 to 2,500.It then starts to miss slightly and puffs out some smoke and smells like unburnt fuel. I have just replaced the injectors with new genuine Denso's and a new turbo (genuine)with a 3"exhaust.When it is up to normal operating temp it is completely fine and does not miss at all.Any ideas what it could be.It has 259,000kms on the clock.

It sounds like normal overfuelling on start. As you probably know, diesel engines don't have a choke, the injectors increase the fuel delivered to the engine to compensate for a cold engine. When hot, the ECU reduces fuel delivery to normal and the engine will run normally.
Have you coded the new injectors? They require coding to match the ECU.

Who did the injector work for you? I'd be taking it back to them for a look at the feedback values and probably pulling the injectors out to clean the seats properly.
I might be wrong.

I do all the work myself,I use techstream to code the injectors, feed back values are within specs and have installed new washers and cleaned the seats. All work done as per manufactures specs.Any more suggestions.

Normal cold engine overfuelling. If it runs fine when engine is hot then don't worry it's normal.
