After much reading I'm thinking a chip might be the go. Just chasing better economy. Since adding the rooftop tent it's gone through the roof.

when touring I would sit on 90-95 as it lowered fuel use by 1-2L per 100

Yeh if its only 1-2 litres id rather just do 100. That's only $3 every 100km, $30 every 1000km. I guess after 10000km you might get a free tank of diesel. Doesn't seem worth it to me. If it dropped by 5l or more then it would be. Was thinking of going to a 200 series but I prefer the room in the tub/canopy. As to the wagon. I hear the 200s are really good on towing...

if I had better gearing fuel use would prob be steady at 10L/100. as it was I sat on 11.5-13L

the worst economy was 15L, due to poor fuel from Weipa. tanks before and after were around 12L/100

Wind resistance and speed chew fuel no matter what !!

That 90 to 95 ks has been a sweet spot for me on quite a few vehicles.

Thanks mate. I'm going to order a chip and drop the speed to 90. Dropped to 95 today with no ac and it dropped by 2l over 300km. Just need to decide on a chip now.

ECUshop, HKS or Unichip are the best performance modules on the market

Ive googled unichip hilux and no shops came up. I want to get one before the 12th as driving to perth from Melbourne. That 1kd Facebook page is grouse. I didn't realise people worked these motors. I always thought there were a bit temperamental. (I've had two blow up) no mods at all.

You could do worse than call Turbo Engineering in Thomastown. If the owners from a few years ago are still there, they really know their stuff.

I have no idea whether or not they can do the chip thing, but they may be able to point you in the right direction if they can't help.
